Cooking With The Husband~Ribs!

by Robin on June 12, 2009

It’s that time again…Foodie Friday over at Michael’s blog, Designs by Gollum! (Did you know Gollum is an author? Here’s her website, check it out! Her latest book, Mermaid’s in the Basement,  is on my summer reading list!)  Anyhoo, if you need some yumalicious recipes head on over and ennnnjoy!

Also today is Beautiful Life Friday over at Inspired Rooms with Melissa. She’s talking about entertaining for real people today so I thought this would be a good link! The Husband loves to entertain!

The Husband is a grillin machine already this summer!  He decided to grill ribs last weekend…He paid a visit to his friendly neighborhood butcher who hooked him up with some great ribs.

There were several steps he took which I’m going to tell you at the end of the post.  They were boring for pictures but necessary, or so I’m told.

He also grilled corn on the cob…to do this he first soaked them in water then carefully peeled back the husks and removed most of the silks.  Then put the husks back into place and plopped those fresh picked golden ears of corn right on the grill!

I went to my very tiny container herb garden and pinched a bunch of dill and chopped it and added it to softened butter.  Dill Butter…it’s really good Peeps! (It’s so sad that in my entire yard I have one tiny corner of my deck that gets ample sunlight to grow herbs…I’m tellin ya, the rest of the yard is shade, shade, shade!

I love dill…

Here’s the dill butter…

Oh, but back to The grillin Husband …

dsc_3591I made this roasted potato salad which I’ll blog later…(Can you tell I get bored with grilling???)

dsc_3606

But  here are The Husbands beeeautiful barbecued ribs!!! No matter how boring, the results were stellar!

dsc_3608

I think ribs are a mans food…Emma and I sat at the table trying to be dainty while eating the ribs…not possible. Messiness aside, the  taste was amazing~

Barbecue  Ribs…The Husband’s Recipe

*Ribs…he only does Baby-Back Ribs (***Ask the butcher to pull off the membrane on the backside of the ribs***) This recipe is for 3 Racks…

*1 Cup Barbecue Sauce ~ The Husband love Jack Daniels~ plus sauce for basting

*1 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix 1 cup sauce & 1 cup vinegar in large saucepan half full of water and soak ribs for 2 hours. (In fridg.)

Wrap ribs tightly in 2 layers of heavy duty foil.

Bake at 500* for 1 hour.

Let cool inside foil for 30 minutes.

Remove from foil and grill on low heat until done, basting and turning every few minutes.

Don’t forget the extra napkins Peeps…these things are yumalicious but oh so messy!!!

TTFN~Happy Weekend!

I’m the one who loves messy food in our house. I like manly food–especially messy ribs! Thanks for showing us all the right way to do it.

P.S. Glad to see Mike smiling. He usually has his serious face on.

Jewles he’s very serious about his cooking :) I may have been saying something inappropriate like turn around so I can get a picture of your bum….that usually gets a smile out of him :)

Love the recipe. I try this tomorrow as friends & cousins are coming for a pre-summer dinner in the open porch first time this summer of 2009 §:-))

Thanks for sharing. You’ve got a cool & helpful hubby.

Cheers for a blissful w/end.

They look fabulous. You did an awesome job with the camera.

I always cheat and get southern style ribs and just bake them until they melt in your mouth.

We eat them with forks.
None of us enjoy the messy foods.
I guess we are missing great food, though.

Have a great weekend!

They sound and look wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Oh yea, yesterday’s post about Reba and her babies? I so flew by the table scape to read all about those precious kitties…..then went back up to the table scape; which is beautiful but don’t hold a candle to those babies. They are precious. Happy Friday. Blessings, SusanD

Oh, so glad to read how to REALLY cook ribs. Son and I cooked some last week for the first time and they turned out pretty good for amateurs. I like the bake first idea, then grill……he’s a very good sport!

That looks like one super-yummy meal!!! And how great is it that your hubby did most of the cooking?! :-) I love BBQ ribs…. messy to eat, but SO good!!!!

Thanks for checking out my post about turquoise — good to hear that you enjoyed it :-) You know, I think turquoise CAN be a neutral colour. It definitely looks great with lots of other colours — purple, brown, orange, red, yellow, blue, green…. so keep spreading it around your house and have fun :-)

Next time I’m at the butcher I’m going to ask them to remove the membrane – that part stinks. I’ve never marinated the ribs with vinegar before hand – I’m going to give that a try. Everything looks so good:) ~ Robyn

I’m a farm girl, so we just dig in with messy food :) but as I’m sitting here looking at that, I’m realizing I don’t think I’ve ever eaten ribs in my life. Isn’t that weird? It’s been in the last few years that people have pointed out to me my VERY BORING food repitore. Again, I think it was farm life… roast and potatoes just make me happy! ;)

Now that corn on the cob… you’d have to fight me for every last ear!!!

This is fabulous! The ribs are making me wild with hunger. And your herb garden, and lovely view into the woods, just makes my heart sing. Thank you so much for the shout out. I hope you enjoy Mermaids half as much as I enjoyed this post.
