Decking the halls for fall!

by Robin on September 1, 2009

I did a little Autumn nesting on Monday…

It felt good to pack up all the shells and sea glass…I’m ready to snuggle right into Autumn but it takes a little time. Decorating for any season involves all 5 senses.  So this week that’s what I’m working on. First I  pulled out some things that looked like fall…I shop my whole house when I decorate for each seasons, looking for anything I can bring into the living area.

I love the inexpensive  leaf garland. There’s a lot you can use it for. This little wreath is just a garland !

Candles are another wonder for Autumn … in the South it’ll be awhile before it’s cool enough to have a fire, so candles give a warmth to the room without all the heat.

Pumpkin colored fabric warms up the dinning room table…fabric is another easy way to decorate for any season. I have an emotional reaction to scrumptious fabric…strange, I know. (Isn’t the centerpiece pretty? It was one of the last things mom made for me. I love the soft color of the vase)

That versatile  leaf garland  can be used for garland and wreaths but also for lots of other things. Use a couple of leaves and twine for napkin rings. This muted tealish-blue is my new favorite color. I’m using it for Christmas decorating this year and I’m determined to sneak it in everywhere.  I’ve discovered I love the color mixed in with almost every other color.

Remember this fun little Autumn craft? I posted instructions here.

I’m not quite done decking the halls for fall but it’s a good start…Are you warming up your house yet?  Love to you today Peeps…

I looked in my closet with my fall decorations. I took them out, stood with them in my hands and then put them back. Its not so much that the weather isn’t changing, but, I am just not ready for it yet :) I did drool the tiniest bit at the apples in my neighbors tree and know an apple crisp is in my future… maybe it’ll be different once the kids are in school?

Love hearing and seeing how you embrace each new season! Love to you.

Vicky…do not rush you summer. You have more nice weather I bet. I’m more ready this year than ever, although Autumn is my most favorite time of year. Ignore me and come back to it when you’re ready :) Hugs

The temps got down into the upper 30s here last night [of course I'm still so blessed hot I had the air conditioning on], but if you lived in Iowa you probably would have started that fire you’re longing for :)

Your house looks beautiful! I just can’t do my red curtains this year. They’ll only go up at Christmas. I’m looking for some amber with a punchy pattern, I think. Or I might go crazy and do bright pink. I need to plant some cheer around here!

Oh Veronica I’m so sorry I made your little heart sink! I bet you have lots of summer left. Enjoy the rest of it…I’m a little pale and tired of looking at my legs so maybe that’s why I’m ready for Autumn!!! Hugs

I LOVE fall. And embracing fall doesn’t mean you let go of the nice weather! LOL! The weather does what it will, but I just enjoy giving fall a fair chance before the holiday take over! :-)

You are doing a lovely job with your home! I am inspired!!

I love fall too-I haven’t had a chance to pull anything out yet-but this weekend I think it will happen, even if just a little bit at a time. Fall is my favorite and, like Melissa, I want to enjoy it before Christmas comes around!

Everything looks cozy and beautiful!

Where did you get the set of three candle holders for the mantle?? I love them…

Jennifer: I got them at Old Time Pottery. We bought 12 hurricanes and 10 smaller ones for my daughter’s Autumn wedding a few years ago! They were pretty cheap if I remember correctly.

Robin, how did you hang the wreath on your fireplace? Hard to tell if you have it hanging on the fireplace screen or the actual fireplace? We live near Palm Springs and have a fireplace that is the flip a switch fireplace meaning a gas log and glass in the front so I could put a wreath there, I doubt if we will use the fireplace and something like a wreath would look good there…I guess I just need ideas for my boring fireplace..
