Cotton Pickin Fair…our new favorite Autumn Festival!

by Robin on October 7, 2009

I love Autumn Festivals, don’t you? I wanted to bring you along on one I’ll be linking to the wonderful Southern Daydreamer’s Outdoor Wednesday where you’ll find a hundred links to the great outdoors!

The Husband took me to on Saturday…The Cotton Pickin Fair in Gay GA! Look at this wagon full of cotton! My Mama used to pick cotton when she was a little girl! She would have loved this festival for so many reasons…

dsc_0065

There were pumpkins…take a look at the blonde girl in this picture. Is she checkin out The Husbands bum? I think she is! Can’t blame her!

dsc_0067

All Things Autumn everywhere at the Cotton Pickin Festival…take a moment and let Autumn wash over you and give you a tiny tickle of joy…

dsc_0071

dsc_0072

dsc_0074

dsc_0075

dsc_0076

Wasn’t that fun? Now, I want to tell you this festival was my all time favorite taking the number 1 spot from the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park…there were several reasons, not the least of which was the YumAliciouS food!!!  Real authentic “fair food”!!!

dsc_0080

Peeps you  know I have a spun sugar heart, Cotton Candy is  absolutely, positively one of my most FAVORITE things. In all the world, I love this the best.

dsc_0087

I asked The Husband to hold the camera while I let the delectable fluffy pink cloud of shuga dissolve on my tongue…

He thought it was a good idea to catch me in the act…

dsc_0094

I said something like; “Holy crap, don’t take my picture eating this”.

Oh, it’s on now, I thought. Just you wait…

dsc_0096

So I got the camera and pretended to take pictures of antique toys…oh the next reason I liked this festival better than any other, they had some antiques…you know how I love All Things Old…

dsc_0091

The 3rd reason I like the Cotton Pickin Fair the best is it’s got loads of space. The place was super crowded but just look!

There were areas of wide open spaces…

dsc_0098

Oh, and remember the 1st reason I like this fair the BEST…food people.

dsc_0102

Oh, but back to The Husband…’Scuse me Husband, what are you about to buy???

(What do you suppose his look is saying to me?)

dsc_01071

He was probably sayin: Woman, I’m not trying to loose weight, you are, I can eat anything I want…boo-ya.

dsc_0114

dsc_0118

Really? Well, in all fairness, as much as I love spun sugar, The Husband loves fried pies. And he really doesn’t need to loose any more weight. Just ask that blonde girl that was checking out his bum.

dsc_0120

dsc_0124

And ribs…this was just too easy…every time I turned around the man was chomping down on a little somin-somin.

dsc_0127

Country Ham Biscuits…well, we are in the deep South.

dsc_0128

Don’t cha love this house? It was on the property and had booths inside selling the cutest stuff.

dsc_0140

This is what I loved the best inside that beautiful house…don’t know why…

dsc_0142

That looks fun. But we didn’t partake….I’m not a fan of the root beer.

dsc_0176

The day was pristine…

dsc_0177

I can’t believe it but The Husband didn’t eat a Funnel Cake. He’s got a Weight Watcher’s weigh in on Wednesday after all! Good grief, he’ll loose 5 lbs and me and my 100calorie bag of spun sugar will have gained! (Have I mentioned to you that I believe the man/woman weight loss phenom  is evidence that God is a man?)

dsc_0179

This just speaks for itself. We did not eat a pickle.

dsc_0181

Really, every few feet there was more fun food…good gravy.

dsc_0191

“Where are you going?” I asked the husband…   He pointed.

dsc_0184

This was the best thing of the whole day…we met the most delightful women from the Senior Center.

These ladies quilt together 3 times a week!  I showed them my arthritic hands and expected them to say “oh I have that too”. They didn’t . Their hands worked perfectly. They made 6 stitches with every needle entry!

dsc_0195

dsc_0198

They said we could take their picture if we bought raffle tickets…The Husband bought a BUNCH of raffle tickets. They fell in love with him…like most women do. Again, who could blame them. He’s a peach!

dsc_0199

dsc_0192

The Husband and I had a great day and we found a new  favorite Autumn Festival! This empty nest thing isn’t all bad Peeps. No telling what we’ll be off doing next weekend! (Of course all day we talked about taking Baby Ellie, our granddaughter, next time!)

Glad you had fun Robin. But I do have one question, no make that two: One, why do you feel you need to lose weight? and Two, do you have any teeth left after that pure sugar? Never did like that stuff but now that I am 57 (Friday) and wearing braces it is a definite no-no. Enjoyed looking at your pics. Looks like you two had fun.

Bill, I wonder about my teeth. And my triglycerides. I would eat a bag of pink spun sugar every day … if only. I want you to know, in heaven there will be coffee and cotton candy so you’ll have the chance to try them again! And about my weight…really there’s NO other thing you could have said to me, I mean if you said “here, I’m giving you a million dollars” I’d feel no different than I do with that question about my weight!!! But to answer…my pants are too tight. :(

That was fun! It looked even better than yard sales. I especially love the pictures of the quilters. Don’t want to think about all that lovely food I saw. I had to tug my pants up this morning and I don’t want to set myself back.

Thanks for sharing your day with us. What a delightful event. The apple dumplings remind me of my grandmother. She passed almost five years ago, but she shared much of herself over the years. Her apple dumpling recipe is one of them. Thanks for the memories. As soon as we’re settled in our new house, I’ll make some and share the photos. Blessings, SusanD

Robin- I have to agree with Bill- you don’t look to me like you need to lose any weight! Now I feel like a big fat cow if you think YOU’RE fat!

Loved the photos- I so enjoy these types of fairs/festivals.

Sherri: NO no no, I don’t think I’m fat…I just think my pants are tight :) I am keeping the alternative in mind…new pants. The older I get, seriously, my body just wants to hang onto the lbs. and my mind and emotions feel the need to eat comfort food…really a problem!!!

Golly! It looks like you had a fantastic time at the fair. I love fairs. Now you have me wanting to go to one NOW. Our state fair is not until next February. Oh, for what it is worth, it does not appear to me that you need to lose any weight!

Thank you for sharing your day at the fair with us!

Robin: First, it is a fact of life that the older we get the harder it is to take off what we have put on. I would say (IMHO) that you look fine. Just get that new pair of pants (and I bet the hubby thinks you look fine also) However, I have found the perfect diet. Get braces at 56 and then have a dog take you down while riding your bike. Does wonders for feeling like eating and muscles not responding to weights. New diet but I would not recommend it. :) Well, there goes my infomercial and millions!
