Perspective…

by Robin on October 22, 2009

Sitting here next to my dad-in-law in the hospital. He’s not responded since Monday night. My mom-in-law has been telling stories of their life together.  She holds his hand. Kisses his forehead. Reassures him that she’s here. Even when he doesn’t respond.

Being here puts everything into perspective. There are others in this hospital walking similar journeys. I recognize the look in their eyes.  Looking past you, lost in thought. Maybe looking somewhere far into their past, at a day that didn’t feel so weighty. Perspective. It’s a beautiful thing. A gift even. I pray I’ll keep a bit more of it going forward.

Although my mom was responsive for most of her final 6 weeks it was still heart-wrenching to sit there and watch someone so vibrant and lively go away. I can remember her waking up and saying, “Oh I’m still here.” Never will forget that. Her home, her true home, was heaven. She knew that looked forward to that. Love to you and the hubs.

Oh, I do pray that you will know peace that surpasses ALL understanding and that God will be glorified, as I know He will, through the testimony of your family and their walk thru this difficult time. I pray you will be comforted and know and be able to rest in the God of the universe who cares for His own.

WE sat with my MIL for 2 weeks. And it was, holy ground as someone said. This is a rare opportunity. Your MIL is a STRONG woman. God bless you all! XOXO, Pinky
