A Holiday Craft AND a Recipe…hey it’s Thanksgiving Week!

Thanksgiving week! WooHoo! I’m doing a double post today Peeps, an easy breezy Christmas decorating craft and a YumiLicious pie recipe! And tomorrow…a guest post! I can’t wait!!! First the craft and then scroll down for the pie recipe! (Pie recipe at the bottom of the post!)

First, I found this vine wreath in the attic, you know the brown kind but this one was all…spiky and made me think of…ice.  so I spray painted it silver and sprayed some pine cones silver and teal. Then I got a sprig or two of ice and berries! Poof!

what-you-need

I hung it on my dinning room mirror.  You know, the dinning room that’s all decked out in teal and icy silver and pink?

I think one of these could be spray painted about any color! It took about 5 minutes to put this puppy together.

Now for the scrum-dilly-umptious recipe…

I was practicing pies to take for Thanksgiving and The Husband LOVED this one. I got it off the Tasty Kitchen website which I’m linking to in just a second!

dsc_0335

dsc_0341The original recipe is HERE.

Here’s the recipe as I made it (I only changed a couple of things!)

Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake Pie

*2 pkgs prepared chocolate pie crust

*4 pkgs. cream cheese, room temp..

*1  1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

*1  cup creamy peanut butter, divided

*1 teaspoon vanilla extract

*4 lg eggs

*1/4 cup whipping cream

*2  1/2 cups small peanut butter cups quartered

* 1 bag mini chocolate chips

*4 tablespoons unsalted butter

*1/4 cups water

Preheat oven to 350*. Set a rack in the center of oven and on a lower rack, put a small metal pan half full of water.

Beat cream cheese and brown sugar in large bowl until smooth. Add 1/2 cup of peanut butter and vanilla until blended. Add eggs on at a time beating well after each addition.

Add whipping cream and beat until smooth. Then stir in peanut butter cups, being careful not to break them up.

Divide batter in half and pour each half into each pie crust. Bake with the pan of water in the oven until the pies are set, but the center still moves slightly. About 50 minutes. Cool pies.

For topping: Place chocolate chips, water and butter in microwavable bowl and heat at 50 % power for 30 seconds. Stir and continue to heat until chocolate is just melting. (Don’t overheat)Remove and stir in remaining peanut butter. (Taste and add more peanut butter if you want)

Stir until well blended and let cool until it thickens slightly. Spread over top of the pies and place in fridge for 3 hours, or over night…

**Next time I’d half the topping recipe and make the chocolate topping a thin layer. See the photos and how thick the topping is? It wasn’t easy to cut with your fork…

Yes, I know those spikey wreaths! You give them new life. And I can have your pie, as long as I don’t eat the crust. Thanks, Rob.

Robin, I am embarrassed to tell you that I threw away my twiggy brown dried wreath. It was in perfect condition but I tired of it and instead of thinking I could do anything with it… I chucked it. And now after I see what could have been… well … lesson learned!!

I really like the idea of hanging a wreath on a mirror. I’m going to do that this year. It looks beautiful. Thanks for the recipe. If it has chocolate in it, it’s for me!! : ))

The wreath is so pretty in silver – I’m glad you tried painting it. I love the twigs, but get tired of the natural look. The pie looks just sinful!
