Christmas at the Kitchen Table

by Robin on December 3, 2009

It’s Tablescape Thursday over at Between Naps on the Porch. I thought I’d show you my casual kitchen table.  Remember, I did BUDGET teal and pink and icy silver in the dinning room.( I posted it HERE.)In my little kitchen, which I also did on a big budget, I went with a bit of a woodland theme.

I’m so in love with all the woodland creatures that have come out this year…I wanted to change my kitchen table a bit but didn’t want to spend a bunch, soooo…

I used some little lanterns I had from my daughter Stephanie’s wedding…the dishes were 3 bucks at Old Time Pottery! I made the napkin rings out of garden twine. I heart garden twine!

That great centerpiece lantern was 5 dollars at Pottery Barn Outlet. Seems the glass door was broken…Whooooooo cares? Asked the owl!

And everyone’s using burlap these days, I didn’t really want to sew a round table cloth so I just bought a yard each of green and khaki and sewed some cute ribbon along the edges and draped them across the table. I do a lot of draping fabric on tables, I guess I’m too lazy to make table cloths that fit!

See the twig stars over the table? They were 49 cents at Old Time Pottery…the catch was, they had a scary Santa face glued onto each one. I ripped the scary Santa faces right off.

I bought lots of these stars, they’re showing up all over my house this year!

This is my long-time kitchen wreath. I will be changing it next year, so I’ll keep an eye open for After Christmas sales on the little woodland creatures!

I can’t give up my colored lights in the kitchen. They just make me happy.

I’ve had a bit of fun with a big bag of tiny pine cones I bought for $1.99. Next week I’m going to show you something fun to do with them! I scattered a few inside the lantern.

The tiny woodland owls are from Target. They came 6 to a package and were $9.00. Not on sale but look at this cutie pie…

And our 4 pups hang their stockings in the kitchen. Why? Because the kitchen is their most favorite place in all the world! I buy puppy toys all month and fill as I go!

I so love these tiny owls. I’m pretty certain I’ll be leaving them out when I put away the Christmas decorations.

Love to you Friends…and prayers as we live our legacy ~ one day at a time.

Oh, Robin..I do so love that table! And I use colored lights in my kitchen too..makes it feel so old fashioned and homey, like a little Christmas cottage!! And, I also drape fabric on the table instead of sewing…it makes for a much happier ending, as I’m not a seamstress!! I often use a twin sized sheet for my table cloth, then layer on fabric to dress it up!!

I love the lanterns and the coloured lights especially. You’ve reminded me that I have a lantern in my shed that I’d planned to spray and use on the dinner table, so thanks for that. I think the owls are adorable. xx
