There’s a fun blog-party with all manner of Christmas ornaments over at Centsational Girl’s Blog-Home! Check it out you’ll love her site!

This is a little something sweet you and your kiddos can do for the critters! I have lots of birds and squirrels that I feed and I thought it would be fun to give them a bit of Christmas cheer!
I got a few pine cones and slathered them here and there with peanut butter, rolled them in birdseed and tucked some cranberries in the crevices! Using floral wire to hang them I simply wrapped it around the pine cone and twisted it into a hook! And tied a bow at the top!

I’m hanging a pine cone in my crabapple tree in the front yard for my front yard birds!

Then I made some suet ornaments…

First microwave a block of suet for a few seconds. Then add some peanut butter. Mix! The kids will like this ooey-gooey part! Now roll into small balls and tie with garden twine. (tie it kinda tight so it’ll hold the ball) Roll the ball in birdseed and poke in a few cranberries. Pack it tight and waaa-laa!

I have a threesome of trees on the deck where I hung a few of the ornaments for my critters!

And on the wreath! Why not?

In the interest of full disclosure I must tell you after a short while I realized it’s better to ration the scrumptious ornaments or these little rascals run off with all of them!

I’m storing most of them in a baggie in the freezer and putting a couple out every morning. This works better for the little birds!

As I was reading this, I was wondering about squirrels, thinking that you must have much more polite squirrels than we do. And then I got to the end of your post!

Get out!!!! Those are so darn cute. We are major birders here at our house and I love watching them come up to our feeders. I’ve got a bag of cranberries in the fridge, will they eat them? Love this project!
The pine cones really look pretty hanging on wreaths and trees. What a great idea for the wildlife. I have tons of squirrels and birds here. I think I’d have to ration them a little too!
What a sweet tweet!
I hope that you will come by and see the ornaments I made: pearl encrusted star, crystal and button ball and an anthro inspired tree topper.

Just love these little goodies for the birds and squirrels! I think the cranberries in the little nooks and crannies really add alot and make them look super Christmas-y. Hey, just don’t hang any of them too close to where you park the car, you know?!?!?

Neat idea! I’ve grown to hate the squirrels–they make off with all of our birdseed. Fun project for little ones.
