A Kids Table that everyone will want to sit at!

by Robin on December 16, 2009

Welcome to Tablescape Thursday! Susan at Between Naps on the Porch hosts a great blog party on Thursdays, and today’s ought to be inspiring as we’re all getting ready for Christmas!

You know I believe getting ready for a party is like Setting the Stage for More Important Things. Things like showing love to those you love.  A warm inviting home tends to put your friends and family in a great state of mind for you to love on them and show them how important they are to you.  I’ve been working on setting the stage for our family Christmas party on Saturday night! I posted about the table for the teal and icy silver dinning room HERE. And the woodland kitchen table HERE.

Today I’m going to show you my 2 overflow tables! We call them the “Kid’s Tables” although the “kids” are almost all in their 20’s now! I put the overflow tables in the little library room and the den…(look at the pine cone garland I made today! It was totally unnecessary but I had so much fun!)

pinecone-garlandHere’s the den table…covered in packing paper from the dollar store! Then I hot glued some fringe around the edges!

Crayons so everyone can color while or after they eat! Knowing my fam, they’ll turn it into some sort of coloring contest!

Just a marshmallow dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with … well, sprinkles! My new bud from Chatty Crone gave me this idea! She’s a delightful Georgia blogger that I met at a luncheon last week!

Here’s the other “kids” table in the library room.

For this table I made these easy little paper cones and filled them with crayons!dsc_0595

I used my trusty Ball Jars for the centerpiece! I love and adore my Ball Jars! They come through in every season!

With all the chocolate covered marshmallows on the tables Bindi Lou Who wanted to get this party started!

Here’s Bindi again with her sis, Bella. They were posing all day as they kept an eye on those marshmallows on a stick!

Ollie kept sitting pretty…hoping for a marshmallow!

But The Boo is a bit old for all the begging. He stayed snuggled in his bed all day.

I must leave you with some delicious Bokeh! I love bokeh and this accidental kind is the best!

Love to each one of you today Peeps as we live our legacy~one day at a time…

Can adults sit at your cute kids table too? What fun. I really like the presentation of the crayons in the boxes and also in the cones. Now the cute little helpers deserve a treat for watching you set the table with those marshmallows.

I’m bowing to you. This, I believe, is your most fantastic display of creativity. Here’s how it spoke to me. A lot of times people really don’t want children at parties so they stick them in the basement where they can’t ruin anything. Where they’ll be out of the way. Not much thought, love, or planning involved. But what you do just the opposite. You love them and welcome them the way Jesus did.

You’re onto something powerful. Keep going. You have a unique gift of making people feel loved, my dear friend. Even the “least of these.”

Robin, I love all the creativity I see here (love that garland)! I also read your family eyes post and, that really spoke to me, I often wonder “WHY” too and I think my mother was also what makes me want to create wonderful memories for my children (& the whole family). In my TT post today, I’m using HER tablecloth and I hope she is looking down and smiling! Thank you for setting the stage!

Each event gets better and better !!!! The ideas for the children’s table are GREAT. The brown paper and crayons are a wonderful idea that parents could use for a child’s birthday party. The addition of the ball fringe is fantastic. That turns something ordinary into something wonderful and a happy memory.
You are the most creative and thoughtful person I know.

Robin, these are great tables! I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t pick up a crayon and at least doodle. I appreciate that you make the kids feel as important as the adults by putting so much effort into their table.
