Valentine’s Day Heart Garland!

by Robin on January 17, 2010

First: If you click on the most recent post on my blog, I’m having an Amazon Gift Card giveaway ! It will last ALL WEEK! It will be up Tuesday so go there and comment on your favorite books of 2009 and enter! You can comment and enter on any post Tuesday-Saturday this week! I’ll post the winner next Monday!

I know it’s not even February but if you’re thinking of making something for Valentine’s Day why not start early so you can enjoy it for more than a couple of weeks?! I love a good easy garland don’t you???

Valentine's-Day-Heart-Garla

Here’s what you need:

*Glue gun

*light weight wooden heart cut outs (Hobbly Lobby has them)

*craft paint (the Hobby Lobby cutouts were a not so great shade of red, so I painted over them with a red pearl color!)

*scrapbook paper

*cut out letters that fit your cut our hearts!

*a bit of fabric scraps that match your colors, cut into strips

and 2 of my all time favorite things…

*Jute twine

*Mod Podge!

This is easy…paint your hearts (if you want to!)~ Cut out paper slightly smaller than your heart (just trace the heart and cut inside the lines) ~ Use Mod Podge to adhere paper to wood ~

mod-podge

~Paint your letters ~Glue gun them to the hearts~ Now for the fun! Mod Podge over the whole lovely creation!

heart-craft-2

Now attach the twine to the hearts. If you have small staples for your staple gun that’s best. But they must be small. I was out and used the trusty glue gun.  (Major big blobs of glue ) And tie fabric scraps here and there! I tried it out in the kitchen here…

I love your placement of the garlands too! The one between the metal sculpture pieces on the wall is soooo perfect in that location. I think you are rubbing off on me… I HAVE been thinking about Valentine’s day already, and these are the perfect thing!

I think I’ll try making the garland with heavy chipboard since I really don’t want to go out on this very rainy day in AZ and I have the chipboard and red paint in my stash. Thanks for the cute idea!
