Beach Blanket from Bandannas!

Blanket

My daughter Stephie wanted to make Ellie a beach blanket out of some bandannas! This little quilt is super easy and almost anyone can do it.

The colors were sheer Summer so off we went! Stephie carefully (they need to be the same size!) cut the squares and we laid them out in the order we liked!

Then I sewed the squares together. It’s important to be careful that the seam allowance is exactly the same. Sewing two complete rows and then sewing the row together is the way I like to do it. And ironing is important. I iron after every row! When the top is sewn together lay out the backing fabric right sides together with the top.

We used a soft terry cloth and doubled it, using the extra fabric to provide cushion instead of  adding batting…

Pin the back and the top…RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER. Then sew around the outside using a small seam allowance and leaving 10 or 12 inches open.

Trim the seams before you turn the blanket “right-side-out”.

DSC_0428

Turn the blanket to the right side and press it where you just sewed. Use lots of steam to get a nice pressing…press the open edge under…

Sew around the entire outside of the quilt (I used a decorative stitch) and just sew the open edge closed when you get to it!

This was a fast easy project. And really, if you keep your squares the same size and your seam allowance the seam allowance the same size anyone can do this!

Ellie loves being outside…she can’t wait to see the ocean!!!

Great idea! I love the colors of the bandannas too. I like the idea of using double terry cloth for the backing too. It will wash easily, won’t bunch up after washing because of the batting and be a nice beach blanket for Ellie to use through the years. :0)

I love this- I’ve seen the idea to use bandanas before, but never paired with terry for a beach blanket! It’s perfect, right down to the colors and designs you chose!

Thank you for participating in Talented Tuesday! I really enjoyed your project, and have featured it in this week’s Talented Tuesday post! I look forward to seeing more projects!
