Walking and Talking

by Robin on June 2, 2010

the walk with texture

“To walk with God we must make it a practice to talk with God…”

I forget this sometimes.

Sometimes after my morning reading I talk AT God not with God.  I’m working on it…

I’m thanking Him more…

I’m listening more…

I’m focusing on His attributes more…

~Love to each of you today~

Lately, He seems to be saying to me, “Do you trust me? Then give it to me. It’s not too big for me.”

Love this picture!!

Yes Julie, me too. I’m leaving things with Him more often these days…the same things over and over :)

It’s the listening part that gets tricky. My favorite verse is “Be still and know that I am God”.

Great verse Susan…I have an easier time being still if I make it a morning discipline…

Guess He’s trying to really get my attention this morning!!! ~ I just read something else this morning that has me reflecting on my talking, praising/praying….LISTENING time with him.
“Prayer is a war-time walkie-talkie not a domestic intercom for ringing up the butler.” ~ John Piper on John 15:16
Now your post ……

I’ll be focused on listening more today and trying to drown out the noise of the world around me with Him! Blessing my friend!

Cyndy…LOVE that John Piper quote.

Your key Robin (least I think so) is whether we talk AT God or WITH God. That, to me, is the crux of the matter. I might talk at someone i don’t know but I talk with someone I do know. Good thoughts today!

Well said. I have been working on listening more as well. It isn’t always easy and the answer isn’t always what we expect. I have learned that it is always best though. Thanks for the reminder!!

Philip…it took me awhile (I’m almost 49) but I’m finally realizing the answers are almost NEVER what I expect.

As usual, I NEEDED to see this today… yes, I’ve been talking AT and not WITH… so true. I thought I was not hearing, but really, I have not been still and listening.

Thank you Robin, for you just being you…
love you

I’m reading a book right now on living and recognizing being ‘in the moment’ and what a perfect post to go a long with that. I too do a lot of talking At but not With. Thank you for the gentle reminder that conversations, even with God, are a two way street!

What I have learned, Robin is that it is a sad thing not talking with God and listening to Him. Because we then miss a golden opportunity to draw closer to Him, to get to know Him better, and to let Him know that we realize that we want and need his help. When we fail to talk with and listen to Him, we greatly limit God’s ability to accomplish the things that he wants to do in our life. It is a lesson that I have been trying to learn also. You are not in this alone, I believe we all struggle with this!

James 4:8 “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.”

Hey Robin! You said exactly what I’ve been feeling. I know from experience that the more you read his word the more it actually starts sinking in. To the point that you crave more. I keep slipping back and can feel it and see it in my life. The fact that I need to devote more time to spending time with God and listening, not talking has been on my mind a lot lately. Thanks for posting this. God uses people in the most unusual ways and though you may have written this post for yourself, God used you to share a message with me.

Hugs…Tracy :)
