Lots of people make fun of Twitter, but I just found another reason I like to tweet!
The other night when I woke up at 2:00am, I reached for my Blackberry, which is my habit when I wake up in the night. After making sure I didn’t have messages from any of my kids I checked my email and twitter… Donald Miller (you know, the author of A Million Miles in a Thousand Years & Blue Like Jazz) had tweeted that he had eaten the best broccoli of his life! And he included a link! Don’t judge me but I was wide awake and went to the link, which is HERE.
The next day, I tried it! YUM!

Best Broccoli of Your Life!
Preheat oven to 425*
*2 Bunches Broccoli
*Garlic cloves-4
*Lemon
*Olive oil
*Fresh grated Parmesan Cheese-app. 1/3 cup
*****
Cut broccoli into big florets, they must be dried THOROUGHLY!
Put broccoli on a foil covered cookie sheet. Toss with olive oil, salt and pepper. (about 4-5 Tablespoons olive oil)
Add 4 garlic cloves (peeled and sliced)-toss with the broccoli
Roast in the over for 20-25 minutes, until crisp and tender and some of the florets are browned.
Take out of oven and zest a lemon over the broccoli, squeeze the lemon juice over the broccoli and add 1.5 Tablespoons more olive oil and 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
EAT!
Thank you twitter! Thank you Donald Miller! And thank you Amateur Gourmet !

And thank you Mrs. “I’m-going-to-put-a-recipe-for-broccoli-on-here-so-Bill (who can’t eat it now that he has braces)-will-drool.” I love broccoli-raw, cooked, “anyway you want it that’s the way I like it.” But I sincerely hope you and your readers do enjoy (and eat a piece while thinking of me). Love and hugs (I think). LOL
Yay! I can eat this. It’s GF!!! Thanks, Rob.
I’ve made it with a pot of spaghetti instead of using sauce. It is so yummy!
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, we are all big fans of broccoli here. Well, little trees as we tell the kids. We will have to try this out sometime. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

For some reason my kids adore broccoli, which amuses the wait staff whenever they pick it over french fries when we eat out. This does sound both easy and yummy. My admiration for Donald Miller rises, who knew.

I am making this with dinner tonight!!!!
Okay – bought the broccoli the day this recipe came out – but never got the fresh garlic or lemon. Tonight – I am making it but using the garlic bread oil dipping sauce I have left over from my birthday party last night – will see how that variation works. I have the parmesan –
Also – making banana pudding with Oatmeal Pies – Alaina bought them and I thought, “Gross.” but then decided I could make them a banana pudding – as I was whipping up the pudding I realized I don’t have a banana. Sigh. Oh well – bananaless banana oatmeal pie pudding. At least I am trying. My kids arent quite sure what is happening with me.
I had carb failure last night – it was my birthday – we actually ate Italian in a private little garden and I just ordered the shrimp that was supposed to be on the pasta- with no pasta. But the cheesecake my mom brought over did me in. I just had another sliver – even though I froze it. If I eat any more tomorrow – it is going to be thrown out rather than saved for Father’s Day – with Papa John – Oh I know – I will put it in the outside freezer- that should help. Okay….really Robin….I do appreciate the way your website is making me think outside the box in cooking even though my favorite moments are when you are sharing from your heart. XXO Debi
Debi…I made the broccoli and added fresh chopped asparagus! It was YUM!!!!!!!
Hang in there and don’t beat yourself up…it was after all you birthday …xo
