The 2 weeks of working 12-16 hour days has caught up with me. I’m nearly catatonic this week while trying to finish up our DIY project.
Soooo…
I thought I’d update you on my “JunkFood-fast”!
I posted about my issues with all things baked and sugary HERE. My plan was to come off of junk-food sugary treats for a month and then eat them just once a week. My goal was to fit back into my clothes and to get out of the habit of eating ice cream cones for lunch!
I’m into week seven. I’m only eating a small amount of sweets once a week these days and here’s what’s changed…
*My clothes fit! It took 5 weeks before I could tell a difference but finally, they all fit!
*I’m not craving sweets like I was…this is nothing short of Divine Intervention. Can I get an AMEN!
*Somehow, I’m able to eat less of everything! I wasn’t really trying for this, it just happened. I seem to be more satisfied. Again… miracle I tell ya.

These things have saved me…
At some point during the late morning I want to chew something sweet…frozen grapes have been meeting that need. Believe me, no one is more shocked and aghast about this than me! Grapes are after all a fruit and I’m not dipping them in milk chocolate! But the texture and the just-sweet-enough taste is perfect.
Five or six nights a week, The Husband makes us smoothies. Holy canolli the man can make a smoothie! The consistency is like a milkshake…Here’s his recipe for the 2 of us…
~6-8 strawberries cut.
~2 bananas cut
~1 1/2 cups Dannon Lite & Fit Strawberry Yogurt
~3/4 cup skim milk
~ice…about 16 ounces. He’s wouldn’t commit to an amount here. He says use: just enough to get your consistency right. (Add some and then check consistency and add more if it’s not milkshake like!)
Blend away and enjoy!
This is our dinner so if you’ll be eating this for dessert you may want to use half…

I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without baking. I’m not pouring over my cookbooks either and I won’t let myself watch the cooking channel!
I’m not going to say I’ll be doing this forever but it’s really freed-up bunches of time that I’m using for our DIY project. When I do get back to baking, it will be MUCH less frequent and I’ll do lots of low calorie-healthy baking and save the high calorie-high fat scrumptious-ness for special occasions!
Because…I feel much ever so much better now that I can zip my pants!
xoxo
Ps…I have also cut out bread 6 days a week during this time. I still eat whole wheat wraps but no bread. Thanks to my daughter and SIL’s trainer Seku, for all this advice! For me, it worked!
So I’m wondering…what’s the one thing you eat lots of that would be near-impossible to give up?

Answer to question: food.
I love about all things chocolate except if it has nuts, almonds, etc in it. Plain is best. I would probably eat, or at least try, chocolate-covered grapes. My smoothie would be healthy…it would be made with dark chocolate. Yep, got it bad. But the one thing I would have trouble giving up, and I haven’t had for two nights now, is my small bowl of ice cream around 7-8:00. Fortunately, I have been busy and gotten in late but it is still a struggle not to make that bowl. Also fortunate for me is that there is none in the house right now. You know it is bad when you go the frig, put your arms around it and weep and wail. Okay, so it is not that bad but does it tell how hard it is to give it up? Have a blessed day robin. Hugs.

bty, the smoothie recipe, Yekcim’s ~
I know you do a great smoothie Daddy! xo
Hi, Robin.
I agree that sugary stuff makes you crave more sugary stuff. I was an ice-cream-aholic before my health issues started. I haven’t given up sweets, but I don’t crave them anymore, and I eat them far less often. What’s really strange is that now I crave salads!! Whoda thunk it????

So glad things FIT now. Doin’ the Happy Dance for you!
I have been eliminating soft drinks and I’ve changed to drinking water or sweet tea instead. I think I need to drop the sweet tea next. Even though it’s cafffeine-free, it’s keeping me up at night!
I guess the one thing I would hate to give up would be bread. Rolls, white sandwich bread, doughnuts, biscuits with honey, cornbread, cakes, cookies, crackers…all of those are my favs. And don’t touch my chocolate. I eat it rarely, but it’s therapy.
Can’t wait to see your new space…

So happy for you!!
For me, it’s popcorn with real butter.
I am so proud of you
I use the same smoothie recipe and change up the fruit often… always keep the banana for thickness but I have used peaches, raspberries, blueberries and mango…
I can’t live without my morning coffee with creamer, only gave it up during pregnancy. Otherwise I have at some point gone without most other things and do not feel deprived at all.

Vicky…I WILL NOT give up morning coffee and creamer! WILL NOT! xo
Hi, just wanted to say I love your blog, and thanks for the idea of the frozen grapes for crunch control. My goodman is on a diet so I must, also. Love the smoothie recipe, too. Btw, I used your tutorial for holiday coasters to make a set with poinsettias. Thank you!
you are doing well. frozen grapes are good. i also freeze bananas, but take off the peel before you free them . the smoothie looks good, will try. best in your weight direction.

Rose…frozen bananas…great idea! I’m going to try ‘em!xo
AMEN!!!!! Now, I ADORE ice cream but don’t buy it often. Right now there is ONE Skinny Cow ice cream cone in the freezer. When it is gone, it is gone. I have to say the 6 cones that came in the box have lasted for weeks! I have tried to cut back on diet soda and switched to water. My clothes some days are too tight and I HATE that feeling! Hate it I tell you! I am gonna make that smoothie, it sounds GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the recipe love. I am so proud of you too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XO, Pinky
Pinky…if you have ONE Skinny Cow ice cream left for weeks you DO NOT have the issue I have! I could NEVAH do that!!! Those 6 Skinny Cows are gone in 3 days! xo
Okay. This is not the first time you’ve mentioned frozen grapes, so I decided to give it a try. I’m blown away! They are sooo good! I actually feel a little naughty when I grab a few during a freezer passing…how great is that?! I’ve really been trying not to bake sweet treats lately, and it’s been challenging. Last weekend, I decided that I had to bake a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies. My Hubby looked at me and said, “Is it because it’s raining?” They were made with whole wheat flour and had no chocolate, but still…I have a problem. So, thank you Robin!

You inspire me—I do love a MacDonald’s sundae for lunch
Ice cream is definitely my weakness! I can attest to the frozen grape method too–love ‘em! Good luck and I am very proud of you!

I am amazed at your discipline. Thanks for sharing your travels and setting the example. Maybe doing the smoothies will help me drop some of these lb’s! Of course laying off fast food would be the biggest help!
Congrats…

I love food. The hardest thing for me to give up would be pasta and chocolate. I am slowly giving things up, but know I can’t do it all at once. Congrats on your success!!
