If you’ve been hanging out with me this summer you know we’ve been doing a ginormous DIY Project! You can find the posts in the pull-down menu on the left sidebar under: All Things Home DIY. (or click HERE)

I’m hoping to show you my den after-pics this week.

In addition to painting the moldings, the wainscoting and the walls we did several other projects in the den.

This is one of them that was kinda fun!

Coffee Table from Dinning TableWe had our furniture on Craigslist and a potential buyer contacted me and asked me if I’d sell her my coffee table along with the furniture.

Old Coffee Table

Well this got me thinking, which is always eventful! ‘I’ve always wanted a round coffee table, maybe I could find something to repaint…’ (you know me and my obsession with Behr Ultra Paint with Primer!)

I hit every thrift store and antique store in a 25 mile radius looking for a round table. I found loads of dinning room tables, which was great. I can work with a dinning room table, but most of them had pedestals and I didn’t want to bring home a pedestal table for The Husband to cut down to size!

Finally, in Marietta, at The Classy Flea I found this cute little table…

DSC_0546

It was already refinished so the price wasn’t what I wanted. ($130.00) but it was solid, it was round and I could easily paint and distress it. (The colors were great, a vintage-green, but not right for my new colors)

Coffee table beforeThe Husband cut off the legs to just the right height for our new sofa and I sanded and painted using my favorite thing…Behr Ultra Paint with Primer. (More Behr Ultra posts HERE)

I painted the legs that gorgeous custom match color my ah-mazing Behr Paint Specialist mixed for me at Home Depot. ( Posted HERE)

And for the top of the table, I used my custom color and a Behr color: Antique White (my creamy dreamy go-to white) and painted a few coats knowing I’d be sanding I wanted it to show variations of those colors.

I watered down the paint when I did the last coat similar to the white-washing technique posted HERE.

Painting is art People. Serious art. :)

Then with a light touch I sanded the top of the table until I got just the right soft gently distressed look I wanted…

White wash painting finishI finished the top, as I do all my painted furniture, with 2 coats of this Minwax Water-Based Polycrylic  in a Satin finish. (I usually just do the tops of tables)

Polycrylic(Remember, don’t shake up a can of Polycrylic and don’t vigorously stir or you’ll create air bubbles that you’ll have to sand out. Gently stir. Gently brush on…it’s all very zen with the Polycleric…sigh.)

And here’s the finished product…DSC_0663I love the lack of sharp corners…just a delicious continuous  which will certainly help when our granddaughter Ellie is running around!

The rest of the den projects and the Before-After pics coming all week!

Have a ‘lack-of-sharp-corners’ kind of day my friends!

I’ll be linking…Join the parties HERE!

Great find! I love the round table and how you toned it down. I just did a dining set and was tempted to distress it, but was afraid. Your table looks great though, hmmm.

Hmm, I’m debating telling you this… but, I have a friend who took and used aniquey white and colorblocked her wood floors. It transformed her room, and she too has a palette of all neutrals with a pop of color in some places.

Such a pretty table… I need a whole room shot to see all the changes together.

I love round coffee tables and yours turned out great. I would never have been able to cut all the legs to the right height! I’ve been to A Classy Flea but it’s been a few years. Great place.

Great job! It would have been so hard to paint over that vintage green, but the end result is fabulous! Love your vision.
