***** UPDATE*****

Before you have a look at the den I have news!!! It’s Saturday morning and I found out last night that the lovely and inspiring powers-that-be at Behr Paint will sponsor a giveaway right here at All Things Heart and Home next week!!!!

3 of my sweet readers will get to pick a scrumptious color and Behr will ship THREE gallons of their Ah-Mazing Behr Ultra Paint with Primer right to your little front doors!!!

Starting Monday and ending Thursday night, there will be bunches of ways to enter! I’ll let Random.org come up with a winner early Friday morning and announce the winners on Friday’s blog post!

Ohhhhhh, I’m so excited! Drop in Monday morning and every day next week to enter!

xoxoxo

Now, back to our before and after post!

Giveaway over

*******

The den is almost done! Almost…But what the heck, let’s look around and see what you think.

Picnik collage

Let’s do a quick birds-eye view…Den DIY After

pan view

pan view 5den 8

And to think it all started with 2 gallons of Behr Ultra Paint and Primer and a determination to paint my wainscoting!

When I picked my new colors I thought I’d so love to have a new sofa and love seat in a sandy-color. Not the sugar white sand of the gorgeous gulf but kind of an Atlantic-side-sand color! At the Macy’s Clearance Center (at Town Center for those of you from Metro Atlanta) we came across this…

beachy sectional

I loved it … but it wasn’t a sofa and love seat…it was a sectional.

I’ve always resisted sectionals…here’s why:

The Husband calls them:

Pit Groups.

Oh for the love of Pete! I can’t put something in the den called a pit group. The Husband has wanted a “pit-group” since the first year we were married in 1986.

I hate the term pit-group. Let’s agree never to speak those words again…

Beachy Sectkional and distressed table

I may hate the term…(I won’t say it, read my lips:  pit group) But I LOVE the new sectional! It’s half filled with down and it’s ‘slipcover’ style so (supposedly) it’s all removable and washable.

But BEST of all there’s plenty of COMFY room for everybody…

2Beachy Sectional

There are usually 4 pups stretched out on this end!

DSC_0084And look! Just in time for our new (almost out-of-the-oven) granddaughter, Lucy Jean, a swivel rocker!

Reba, our little survivor,  loves to sleep on the ottoman.

I was worried about lighting and tables with a sectional but I put a couple of floor lamps in just the right places and used small tables here and there! I’ve never been so comfortable in my den! NEVER!!!

DSC_0086

I do love the sectional but all in all…the Behr Ultra Paint with Primer is the star of this entire makeover. For very little money we got HUGE results!

Painted Fireplace and TV CabinetWhen I painted I took stock of every single thing I put back on the walls…only those things we truly love made the cut.

Picnik collage2

Picnik collage3Curtain Panels finishedI’m still looking for a few things…

I know we need a big rug. I’m looking…

And I need something for this wall…

(Isn’t that round frame divine? It was gold and it isn’t in good shape but apply a bit of Behr Ultra Paint with Primer in Antique White and …sigh it’s true love)

DSC_0094

Whew! And there you have it!

Next week I’m going to show you around the kitchen! If you’ve been thinking about painting your cabinets you may want to drop in!

*****close up of tableI’m also going to give all the paint colors again, as many have asked about this. But I want to post the tealish custom color that I’ve used on soooo many pieces of furniture, frames and the hardware on my kitchen cabinets! My Behr Paint Specialist worked so hard to get the shade just right! (I promised I’d do this today)

I took in a vase and an Easter egg to match. The vase was too shiny and the egg had speckles so that ah-mazing Home Depot employee searched until she found a Behr color that was close to what I wanted and then she mixed and remixed and remixed until it was just right. I almost kissed her right on the cheek!

I wonder if PIT group is one of those things men are just drawn to and you’re so right. If we just call them sectionals, we’re fine!!! How I love this room. The sectional really looks comfy. This is amazing, Rob. The floors even look lighter. Can’t remember if Mike redid them?

Wow. Double. Wow.

Breathtaking, really gorgeous. It truly is transformed and an entirely different feel altogether. I fear I’d sink into the sectional and never want to leave :)

What a huge difference! It looks so much bigger.

I think I have the perfect idea for the two things you want to go by your round frame. I’ve made some prints of my watercolor paintings and I did some lovely blue eggs and feathers that would match your new room beautifully!

AMAZING! You’ve done such a gorgeous job, Robin! If only every pit group were so pretty!

I know what you mean about that Behr Ultra with primer. I love the stuff. I just painted my new sun porch with their “sea salt,” and it’s beautiful.

You are an inspiration, my friend. xoxo

The whole room looks gorgeous. This is so my style. I have darker (brazillian cherry) wood floors but I love your colors. For that round frame, how about a piece of fabric – find something that coordinates with your curtains but is more artsy and graphic? Or beachy? Make it like its own little piece of art. Maybe a swatch from a designer’s gallery or something. Just an idea – it’s what I’d do. :)

Love it! Used two different colors on the wall? What are they called? My entire downstairs is paneled and my husband isn’t receptive to the idea of painting it like I would like to do. Sad :(

I’m going to have to get really creative to lighten up the rooms if painting is not an option because it is really, really dark. I think I need to hire a decorator.

Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your home today.

Jan…I used a semi gloss paint called Sandstone Cove (a Behr Ultra Paint with Primer color!) on the paneling (wainscoting)
And another Behr Ultra color: Castle Path (Satin) on the walls…

***Behr Paint (PR Peeps) and I are talking right now and I’m pretty certain they’re going to sponsor a Behr paint giveaway next week!!!!! Come back Monday for details!!!***

Love your choice! Too bad my living room is too small. My house could really use your help. You should do some consulting!

Reply

Robin August 20, 2010 at 4:36 pm

Julie and Meg…oh that Reba! She comes inside early in the mornings and in the evenings every day. If the weather is miserable she’ll knock on the back door during the day! She’s a little joy but she still hasn’t learned to keep her claws in. She routinely (accidentally) gives me a big kitty-scratch! But she’s doing the best she can after all she was on her own when we decided to make her love us!

YAY!!! It looks absolutely awesome! How much do you want to bet… if HGTV could get a glimpse of all of these projects of yours and “The Husbands”, you would get your own TV show! I’m not joking. You should link your blog to them. Seriously! You could name it “The Husband and Me”. =)
P.S. Craig and I had a brand new Pit Group when we got married. We bought our first home from Scarlet Black and her husband. (It was a double wide trailer, shhh, don’t tell anyone). The Pit Group took up the entire den. It was HUGE! Ha, such Sweet Memories!
Anyway, I’m serious about sending in your befores and afters. It looks GREAT!!!

Can you tell me where you found your round coffee table? Is that a kitchen table cut down, a home made table or one you found? It is exactly what I want for my living room and sectional. Want to hear something funny, my sectional is the same color as yours and my end table is off white also and when I get my round coffee table, it will be painted a color just like yours. LOL It’s small world. If you wouldn’t mind, could you e-mail me at 2many1254@att.net about the table? Thanks so much, I really appreciate it.

I am looking at having to buy primer and paint, but if this works out, it would be so much easier. ;o) I am happy to receive any advice you may like to share with me. :o )
