Painting the Kitchen and a Behr Ultra Paint Giveaway!

by Robin on August 24, 2010

***Give Away OVER***

It’s the second day in our Behr Ultra Paint with Primer giveaway! WooHoo!

If you’ve already entered you can enter again! Just comment! I had so much fun reading what some of you would paint if you won … so today would everybody jump in and let’s talk about what fun project you’d do with 3 gallons of Behr Ultra!

I’ll tell you at the end of this tiny post several ways you can enter!

We’ve been doing a Summer DIY Project that has involved this Behr wonder-paint. See all posts HERE!

*****

The  kitchen in our little white house has been wallpapered three times. Twice by me. When we took down the wallpaper and decided to paint I chose a bold red…

DSC_0036

After a few years I couldn’t take all the energy from that red paint. I love and adore red in other people’s houses, that’s why I chose it, but I can’t live day in day out with red on the walls. It made me nervous!

So last Fall I set out to cover my red…this was before I discovered you-know-what. (Behr Ultra Paint with Primer)

I primed and primed and then I painted. I used a BIG name (expensive) paint which will not be named here, but it did NOT cover well, even after 2 coats of primer! Soooo I  painted and painted some more. Sigh.

It was ridiculous I tell ya.

DSC_0037

(Did you understand that I covered my red kitchen with new paint  in September 2009? Ok…just making certain.)

Here’s the finished product…which looked well-enough…

But…

Have you ever met anyone who can’t seem to leave well-enough alone?

Hi, I’m Robin and I can’t seem to leave well-enough alone.

DSC_0253

When The Husband gave me the go-ahead to paint the den wainscoting and walls I knew I’d include the kitchen in my project. Although I love warm Autumn colors, I’ve been compelled of late to lighten my tiny world…

*****

When I told The Husband I wanted to paint the kitchen, the conversation went something like this…

The Husband: “Didn’t you just paint the kitchen?”

Me: “No.  What makes you think that?”

*****

I dove right in.

I knew I’d use the miracle paint Behr Ultra because I thought I’d rather not spend 2 days in the kitchen painting the walls over and over…

Kitchen re-paintThe walls took half a day.

I kid you not. Easy-breezy!

Are you beginning to understand why my decorating heart belongs to Behr Ultra Paint with Primer?

This should be the end of this itty-bitty story, but alas, as most of my projects go,  the wall project quickly led to a bigger project…

DSC_0228Painting the kitchen cabinets, trim and doors! I’ll Show you the cabinets tomorrow!

Love the new kitchen wall color!!! I would love to redo my kitchen just for a new feel, after all, that’s the first place you see every day as you head for coffee!

We have had wonderful results with this paint too. We painted a lime green bedroom the palest baby blue we could find and it covered in one coat. Home Depot told me it would take 2 gallons to cover the room, so I took the extra gallon back and had it tinted darker and we painted our guest room the darker shade of blue. Again, it covered easily over a mauve color in just one coat. This paint is AMAZING! I can’t wait to use it for some furniture refinishing projects and I would love to re-paint my kitchen and bathroom cabinets. (They are all oak). I am getting rid of all my wallpaper in the house too, so I need to repaint my kitchen and master bath walls too. Lots to do. If only I could learn to paint in my sleep at night. Have a wonderful day. Love & blessings from NC!

The kitchen looks amazing, too! I would love to repaint my raspberry color dining room, but have always known how much paint and primer that would take.
If that would only take 1 gallon, I’d have 2 left over for the bathroom cabinets and the guest room! Yay!

Beautiful kitchen. I would love to get the courage to paint an old hutch – it is stained and has never been painted. I wish I was a brave as you are!!

WOW, great job on the kitchen Robin! Iit’s amazing how much you have accomplished in such a short time!

If I won the 3 gallon paint give-away, my daughter would like me to paint her bedroom and I would also like to paint our laundry room area.

Though it would be a welcomed face lift, I’ve got a phobia of painting my kitchen cabinets…(and the brick fireplace)….lol. Anyway, there are 46 stained cabinets in our kitchen and it is begging me to lighten them up, so you will have to post all your tips on this kind of job for us.

Thanks Robin!! Happy Painting :)

Now my 13 year old is pestering me to repaint her room! I have been putting her off because her room is currently a purplish pink color and I had dreaded thinking of all the priming and coats of paint it would take. Hmmm, I am thinking this would be another job for the paint and primer in one!

I would paint my flat darker than they should be gray ManCave walls a much lighter color. The color already there would put your paint to the test. :) For the record: I don’t like dark walls or rooms but this one I inherited when we bought the house. 5 years is enough.

My daughter has been asking me to paint her white bedroom walls a blue. That would be my project.

Your kitchen looks lovely both ways. I love yellow/gold but also like the lighter color too. I agree about red. I like it in other people’s homes but I could not live with it day in and day out.

I have been using and recommending Behr paint for the last 16 years. It comes as no surprise they came out with a paint w/ primer. I can’t wait to try it !!! What I could do with 3 gallons of Behr paint……….the possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

Patsy Kruebbe August 24, 2010 at 11:30 am

You should be Behr’s national spokesperson. I definitely will have to try this paint and hopefully it will be with the 3 cans I win. LOL

Your kitchen is beautiful, great job as always.

Looks good. I can’t wait to see your cabinets. I am like you, lightening everything in our home. Over the past year I have painted (actually hired someone to paint remodeled section) most of our woodwork and a lot of wood furniture. I love the results. But, I still have more to do so the paint would be handy! :)

So am I supposed to be commenting on THIS post to be entered again? I love your kitchen so much now. So what color did you use? If you named it already, sorry for asking again. If I won, I’d really like to repaint my kitchen and paint my powder room but my two younger kids share a room and it’s dingy and blah. We moved in about a year and a half ago and I keep telling them we’ll redo their room soon. So I think I’d do their room.

Looks gorgeous. I just finished tearing our the subfloor and 5 ft section of my cabinets because of a leak while my husband was out of town. Had to install new flooring, sick and rewire. Now, were gonna have to re-front that section of cabinets and repaint everything. My husband and I are doing all the work after we get home at night so winning this paint would be an answer to prayer.

First, I’d lie to paint all my trim white. And I’d love to paint my kitchen cupboards, but I have ZERO idea what color… They just feel too “apartment kitchen” to me. What color do you think I should do them?

Jumping back in to tell about the rooms that need to be painted in our home (with seven boys). I have two of the boys bedrooms ready to be painted. I am really digging walls painted with sideway stripes. I just have to figure colors out. Was thinking of doing one room in browns and oranges. The other bedroom might get a whole wall of chalkboard paint with the other walls being painted a light robins egg blue. The third bedroom was painted last year and is a dark blue (oops paint).

The kitchen is fabulous. I love your milk glass collection. I just learned you can paint glass and have turned the ugliest of pitchers into a white beauty. Tell me, did you sand the cabinets at all before painting? Thanks for all this inspiration. I know I’m not the only one motivated by your projects and words of encourgement at tackling these painting tasks. God bless you for making my day just a little bit brighter and fun.

i can’t remember if i entered today or not, so throw this entry out if it’s a duplicate.

i shared with my husband, who HATES to paint, that you covered your dark walls in 1 coat…was i telling the truth? still, the fact that it only took 1/2 a day is amazing! we had brick red in a two-story winding staircase in our old house and it took a professional contractor FIVE coats to get it to cover.

would love the chance to try this out FREE!
