Easy Moss Topiary

moss topiary

I decided I’d use a moss topiary for my spring centerpiece…then I thought three would be better :)

(I did a video at the end of the post!)

Today I’m going to show you how I made the round topiaries…not that you couldn’t figure this out all on own! I mean really…these are super easy!

All you need:

* A sweet little terra cotta flower pot, I used a 4″ pot…and you know I like to give my flower pots a bit of an aged patina – HERE & HERE are the ways that I do that!-

*Grapevine Ball – see if the ball will fit right onto the top of the flower pot…it shouldn’t be too big or fall inside of the pot.

* Sheet Moss & Reindeer Moss

*Twigs (Mine came from a grapevine twig swag)

*Heavy gage covered wire (found in floral design section)

* Spanish Moss

*Wooden Dowel painted brownDSC_5867

Make sure your Styrofoam fits securely in the flower pot, push your dowel into the Styrofoam and then place your twigs around the dowel and wrap the wire around all of  them…all the way up through the grapevine ball…

When you get to the grapevine ball, put the dowel up inside the ball and wrap the covered wire around the ball and the dowel to keep it in place…Moss Topiary

Now with hot glue add the sheet moss…DSC_5836 DSC_5838

Add a few long-thin twigs by pushing one side into the Styrofoam and carefully bringing it up and around the ball and secure by tucking it into the wire on the stem…these simply give a little more interest!DSC_5842

I also added twine and tucked some Reindeer moss underneath the twine and the twigs…DSC_5848

Add a bit of  Spanish moss to the flower pot and you’re done!DSC_5852 DSC_5854

They are just perfect on the table!DSC_5901

And here’s the video if you might want to make this along with me!

Thank you for showing how to make these. I’ve been wanting three moss balls to put in my cloches but I didn’t want to pay the high price for them. Thanks to you, they are on my “to make” list! I enjoyed the video too! Thanks!

LOVE these!! Gotta make some! And it sounds like we have a few things in common, not the least of which is celiac disease. I was diagnosed in 2002, when almost nothing was labeled ‘gluten-free’. It’s much better now!!
    Again thanks for the tutorial!!
