Isn’t it a wonder that the whole month of December is full of doing things for other people?
The Christmas season whispers give and we spend time, energy and resources looking for ways to show a little love.
Unless of course, you’re a child, in which case, it’s easy to get caught up in an “it’s all about me”cycle.
“I want this for Christmas!, Can you get me that for Christmas?, I want, I want I want”.
The love of giving doesn’t come natural to most Littles but the good news is, there’s no better time than December for learning to give. Taking your child on a giving spree is a fun way for them to learn!
When my friends at Target asked me to partner with them and Godiva chocolate I knew this was the perfect opportunity to take one of my granddaughters on a giving spree…
Five year old Lucy just happened to be coming over to spend the night, so the timing was perfect.
First we talked about who we wanted to give a gift to and wrote out a list.
It didn’t take long for Lucy to make her list, she wanted to get gifts for her two teachers! For my list, I wanted to do a little something for our mailman (because he just smiles when I chase him down the street with packages that need shipping!), our landscaper (because this year, the leaf blowing has been nonstop!). And lastly, I know a single mom who is in need of a little sweetness! I could see Lucy’s wheels turning as we made our list, she was already getting a little bit excited.
With our list in hand, we took a trip to our favorite place…Target. We knew we would be treating everyone on our list to Godiva Belgium Chocolate thanks to our friends at Godiva. This thrilled me because as you know, Godiva is not your run of the mill chocolate. Godiva is a premium, melt in your mouth, chocolate! What a perfect way to say, I’m thankful for you.
Very quickly the cart was full!
We made finding the gifts into a treasure hunt and the more we found, the more Lucy got into the giving spree fun!
For the chocolates, we decided on scrumptious Assorted Godiva Chocolates Gift Boxes for the mailman and the landscaper, a couple of boxes of Chocolate Caramels Gift Boxes for Lucy’s teachers and a big box of Assorted Dessert Chocolates for our darling single mom! (the dessert chocolate gift boxes are exclusive to Target!) Lucy wanted to add some lotions to her teacher’s gifts and I found a cozy “fur” throw and some magazines for my single mom!
When we got home, we pulled everything out and started wrapping. Lucy was excited about this part too but I have to tell you that she wants a box of Godiva Chocolates of her own for Christmas 🙂 It’s hard for a 5 year old girl to see so much chocolate and not have any!
For her teachers, Lucy picked out these beautiful mint green boxes and gold initial ornaments. (She’s like her Gigi, she loves pretty wrapping!)
We tucked the chocolates and lotions into the box and tied it with string. Her teachers are going to love it and they might just get their gifts sooner than later because Lucy can’t wait to give it to them!
I think the gift giving process made an impact on my sweet girl because now she wants us to do another giving spree where she buys everyone in the family a present from her!
Instead of talking about what Lucy wanted for Christmas, asking her who she would like to buy for this Christmas, took the focus off of herself and started her thinking about other people.
Taking her with me to shop was great too because where she might normally want to go look at toys for herself, we were so busy on our giving spree, that she didn’t even think about toys for herself…
Finally, coming home and wrapping everything fueled her excitement about giving.
(Oh, and I had to move the gifts from under the tree because, as you can see in the picture below, Bindy sniffed out the chocolate!)
In case you want to gift some Godiva Chocolates this Christmas, the Cartwheel app from Target has a 20% off coupon right now! You guys have the Cartwheel app right? It’s AMAZING!
