I so appreciate my friends at BrickAnew sponsoring this post-but the opinions are all mine~
Remember a few days ago I told you our 90’s fireplace was getting a much needed makeover?
Well, here’s the reveal!
HERE is part 1 where we cleaned the stone and painted the firebox. These steps took no time at all and made a huge difference in the overall look of the fireplace.
Now, I want to tell you about installing the gas logs and how the flames in our fireplace went from tiny and pitiful to warm and cozy in just 1 afternoon.
Before I show you how easy it is to change out your gas logs I want to tell you why we decided to change ours.
*source for Tartan throw at the end of post!*
Our home was built in the 90’s and the wood burning fireplace converted to a gas burning fireplace at some point. Our burner was so clogged up that the flames were truly pitiful and the logs were a charred mess…
A good fire on a cold night can make the entire living area feel warm and cozy and that’s what we were missing. But not any more!
If you have a minute, I’d love to show you how easy it is to change out your gas logs…
Remember, before starting your fireplace makeover…
****TURN OFF GAS AT GAS CUT OFF VALVE***
(Your gas valve will most likely be close to where the gas comes into the firebox, in our case, it was directly under the hearth where the gas key turns on the gas…in the basement – in the suspended ceiling.)
Our gas logs from BrickAnew, came with beautiful logs, burner system, grate, burner, embers, sand, lava rock and fittings. We picked up a roll of pipe sealing tape for use with natural gas and leak detector (I’ll show you this in a moment)-
We added the new fittings to our existing gas line using pieces of the sealing tape as directed on the package.
You simply tear off a piece of tape and wrap it around the threads before attaching the fittings-this helps keep the seal tight…
Depending on the position of your gas line, you’ll need to carefully bend the tubing to make it go from the line in the wall to your new burner…
Using the tape to seal, cap off the other end of burner.
Mike used (as directed) this leak detector to make certain there were no gas leaks around the fittings…
Now the fun part! Pour the sand evenly over the burner…
Tear the embers into small pieces and place the pieces over the sand…
Unpack your logs!
Place the grate over embers before arranging your logs following the directions…
Finally, place your lava rock around the base of the grate, extending out into the firebox…play with them until you like what you see!
Now enjoy!
We loved our makeover but felt like we were missing a little something…
My buds at BrickAnew suggested one of their screens. I picked out this rustic arched screen…
And it was the perfect finishing touch…
The black goes well with our chandelier over the farm table…
Which you can see from the great room…
And the arches go perfect…
With the arched front door which you can also see from the great room…
A makeover can update your dated fireplace and a new screen can enhance your design style…
