Apple Crisp is a staple for fall at our house. The aroma of baking apples and cinnamon is a gift. (Apple Crisp video at the end of the post!)
Since I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I’ve worked hard to makeover all my favorite recipes and this one is just a yummy gluten free as it was before!
If you’re eating gluten-free simply use Pamela’s Baking Mix or King Arthur’s Gluten Free All Purpose Flour, gluten free oats and gluten free white chocolate chips (or Gluten Free Butterscotch Chips)…really, how can you go wrong with apples, cinnamon, toasted pecans and white chocolate chips?
Here’s a video if you’d like to watch me make this yummy dessert!
Ingredients:
Filling:
* 1~12 ounce Butterscotch chips or White Chocolate Chips…*if you’re making it Gluten Free double check your Butterscotch Chips since not all of them are GF*
* 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
* 1/4 Cup all purpose flour
* 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Topping:
* 1/2 Cup flour
* 1/2 Cup packed brown sugar
* 4 Tablespoons butter (softened)
* 1 Cup Chopped Toasted Pecans
* 3/4 Cup Oats
Instructions:
Filling:
* About 3 lbs tart apples (any apples work except Red Delicious, they aren’t that good in this!) ~ Peel & dice apples
Preheat oven to 350*. Combine butterscotch chips , brown sugar, flour and cinnamon-Mix dry ingredients and diced apples and bake for 20 minutes. While baking…mix topping.
Topping:
Combine flour and brown sugar ~ cut in soft butter and mix in pecans and oats (If you need to you can mix this by hand) Spoon over apple mixture.
Bake at 20-30 minutes until bubbly and apples are tender.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream…
Looks so yummy! And I love white chocolate
I love the video! Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe.
thank you Brenda! I’m making the apple crisp for the fall party so you’ll get some then! oxox
Yum….now I’m looking for something sweet! I’ve never had apple crisp with butterscotch chips so I need to try this. Thanks Robin for another great recipe.
Diana, Butterscotch chips or White chocolate chips…both are wonderful in apple crisp! xoxo
I get excited when I hear your happy music coming on! You’ll never believe it, but I ate an apple (big red Washington State) while reading/watching this.
Can’t wait to try it. Will omit the oats. I don’t think it’ll matter at all!
Julie, I thought about you and the oats…just add a bit more flour… xoxo 🙂
I think apple crisp is my favorite fall recipe. I just hope I get an opportunity to make it this year. There are so many other recipes I want to make too!! Haha…what a great dilemma to have. 😉 I love your videos. You sound just as kind and sweet as I had imagined you. 😉
Gina, I’d love to know what’s on your recipe que~ Isn’t it so much fun to cook fall foods!? xo
Hi Robin–The recipe looks delish! But is it white chocolate chips or butterscotch chips. Your intro and label says white chocolate, but the recipe says butterscotch chips. I’m assuming it’s the former, but if butterscotch chips are included, I want to caution folks that not all brands of those are gluten free.
Happy end of summer, soon to be fall! 🙂
Shirley
Shirley, It’s either …I did mention the issue with Butterscotch chips in the video. I’ll add a caution in the recipe too…thanks for letting me know I left it out!
Apple crisp is one of our favorites in the fall also! I like this variation with either the butterscotch or white chocolate chips..can’t decide which to try, maybe I’ll have to make one of each! The video was great 🙂 Thanks Robin for another great idea.
Cindy D, I think making one of each is a must! You could then have a taste test to see which one you liked the most! xoox
I can’t wait to try this. Maybe even this weekend. Sounds delish.

Felicia, let me know how you like it! xoxo
Thanks for a fabulous recipe! I made it for our community group over the weekend and everyone loved it. They ate the whole thing though, so now I have to make it again! 🙂 I’m sending them to your blog so they can make it too!
I love apple crisp, and the toasted pecans in the topping and butterscotch chips in with the apples are creative touches that must really add to it!
