I’m making my newest granddaughter’s bedding, she’s due in May but I really want to have it done by the baby shower which is fast approaching! My daughter Bethany picked out some gorgeous fabric. As I cut and sew, handling every inch of this fabric I wonder if it will be a reflection of her personality. I pray for her tiny self, growing under God’s care tucked away while all of her outside world prepare to meet her.
I sew a ruffled bed-skirt. I pray for the day she’ll be born. I iron fabric flat. I pray for all her birthdays after that. I pray I’ll be able to be there for her for a long long time. She is already so loved…
The bed skirt for the crib… is 4 sides of wonderful ruffles…Bethany had the idea to add a bit of burlap to the bottom…
I measured the crib size…
UPDATE****the crib will be sitting high when the baby is first born so the length (to the floor) is different than when you lower the crib mattress as the baby gets older & can stand up! When Bethany lowered the crib mattress, my bed skirt/dust ruffle was way too long! I would consider measuring the length from a lower point to begin with so it won’t be dragging as you lower the crib.***
…and cut plain fabric to fit the box-springs underneath. (THIS PLAIN FABRIC WON’T SHOW)
Then I cut 1 and 1/2 the size each side of the crib in my bed skirt fabric. Cut the same sizes in burlap & sew the burlap to the dust ruffle fabric. Hem edges and sew a long gathering stitch at the top to make your bed skirt fabric fit your plain fabric … (HERE is a great ruffle tutorial).
Attach each side piece to the plain fabric-since you cut your bed skirt 1 & 1/2 times the size you’ll be pulling up your gathering stitch to make it ruffle as you pin into place and then sew the ruffle onto the plain fabric…
The mixture of textures is kinda delicious…
Sneak peek at the quilt…
A new grandbaby is exciting! And your daughter picked out sweet fabrics. Gosh, I need to get myself a sewing machine. I see all these great things sewn and would love to try my hand at it. 🙂
Beautiful fabrics, Robin! The bedskirt looks lovely! What a lot of love you have put into it and I’m sure the quilt will be gorgeous.
Oh yes the burlap on the bottoms is a fabulous idea. I’m also loving the quilt. Can’t wait to see the whole both put together. Your such a nice grandma! Such a nice thing to be able to do the momma to be and baby.
The fabrics are lovely and so feminine looking. The burlap adds a very nice touch. Another blessed baby granddaughter who is loved so much already. ?
What a lucky baby!!! That room is going to be gorgeous! I love the addition of the burlap on the dust ruffle. Can’t wait to see it all finished. Love & blessings from NC!
The fabrics you’ve selected are incredible!!!
I LOVE it! I can’t wait to see it all set up in her little room. Baby B has no idea how lucky she is to have such a wonderful Gigi. I love you, Mom! So thankful for all you do – not just for Baby B but for me and Darren too!
way to get past the fear factor, gigi! this is going to be so GREAT and CHERISHED for years and years to come. i love the white chenille in the quilt!
Bethany is a lucky girl to have a Mom who can SEW!!!!!!!!! This is adorable! You are so good at this stuff!!!! And blessed with grandbabies!!!! XOXO
Very pretty. I should have paid more attention when I was younger. My mother sewed, my grandmother sewed, and I took home economics in school but still feel so intimidated with a sewing machine.
Beautiful! And I can’t wait to see how the quilt turns out, it looks like it’s going to be a soft one!!
I am loving all the mixtures of fabrics. What a pretty calming nursery it will be!

I can’t wait to see the finished project! It looks so cute:)
Looks like it will be just lovely!
Absolutely beautiful! I adore the colors and the textures are so perfect. What a lucky little one. 🙂
I am so excited I found your blog…I too am expecting my first grandchild..He isn’t suppose to be here until June but I have been busy getting his room ready. It is so exciting to pray for this little life that has such possibilities for the future…I wonder if God thinks that about us when he is working at making our world pretty for us.
I absolutely love the mix of fabrics here, multiple textures is one of my faves! Beautifully done! Thanks for linking to Fabric Tuesday.
How lovely. Really like your blog. Hope to see you at My Dream Canvas.
