Welcome to this little Bathroom Before and After!
In getting ready for the contractor to start knocking out the wall in our den, we’re trying to finish the upstairs projects that I started months ago. I threw myself into our bedroom redo (posted HERE) but ran out of energy when I got to the master bath…
But now it’s done!
Here’s a “Before” shot…
This wasn’t a total renovation and as I always do, I kept the budget to a minimal!ย I used my favorite paint in all the world, Behr Ultra Paint with Primer in Hushed White on the bottom paneling and Behr Ultra Sandstone Cove on the top walls. I started with the two tones of white, neither of which are bright-white. And added a soothing soft tealish blue and a pop of pink inside the cabinets!
We kept the cabinet but replaced the vanity top. The Husband ordered the vanity top from The Home Depot and we got it within just a few days. He said it was easy to replace…but The Husband always says things are easy.I painted and distressed the cabinet with a custom Behr Ultra color I’ve used here and there all over the house! Some new hardware, and waaalaaa!
The Husband put in new faucets. (of course, from The Home Depot)
And added new lighting. (from the Martha Stewart line at The Home Depot)
He also built a shelf to hold towels! It’s the same simple design he used for Elliot’s adorable bookshelf (Instructions HERE)
Can you tell that when I have a room redo, The Husband is key to my projects? We are a perfect match I tell ya, I dream up ideas and he makes them happen!
Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room…I have a television in here. Please don’t judge…please. There’s a good story behind this, and someday I’ll tell you ๐
I wanted a little shelf to hide my blow dryer and my iPod dock…so of course, The Husband made it happen! I can now leave the blow dryer plugged in all the time and hide it!(safely away from the water by the way!)
In one of my favorite places for inspiration, Pinterest, I saw a window with a sheer curtain and tiny white lights cascading behind the curtain…I did a little version of that in my bathroom, using a balloon shade from the Shabby Chic line at Target!
It’s like soft candlelight at night…so relaxing. And I love the Shabby Chic line of curtains by the way, they are airy and light and the fabrics are delicious! (and they’re budget friendly!)
And to eliminate one of my pet peeves, I got rid of the shampoo, conditioner and bath soap containers and replaced them with glass dispensers from Target-
Oh, and to cover my unattractive shower door, I use a vintage bedspread that hangs from a shower rod.
I couldn’t finish the bathroom without organizing the cabinets and drawers. I threw away a huge trash bag full of little sample cosmetics and hair products that I rarely use! I was brutal, keeping absolutely nothing that I don’t use regularly. It felt GREAT!
Then I added shelf paper I got a Michael’s last year…it’s the Shabby Chic line! I love it!
~I’m so happy with the bathroom before and after! It’s organized, bright and in keeping with my 2012 one-word, it brings a bit of simplicity to my life!
Will you be working on any projects this weekend or just snuggling in and relaxing?
~Whatever you do my friends, enjoy your moments~
Turned out! Great job!!
Very pretty. Love the idea for shampoos. etc, the lights under your valance and you fur baby. ๐ I painted my vanity and all the woodwork white last year in my bathroom but eventually I’d like to add beadboard, a new vanity top, light and shower doors. It’s on the list. ๐
Oh, it’s absolutely lovely! My favorite is the towel storage…genius!
It looks so nice, Robin! Great job! I have white sheer curtains in my bedroom and have white lights hanging around them too. It looks so cozy in the evenings, In fact, I love crawling into bed with my Nook Tablet and reading with just the white lights on. :0)
Its so fresh and pretty! I loved the lights in the sheers on interest and you’ve used it in the perfect way! I long for a tub I can soak in- and with the ambiance you’ve added, oh its even more what I envision ๐ Beautiful work!
Love! Perfect timing, too–in the middle of a bathroom redo! Do you have any tutorials on your blog for furniture painting? I was going to get rid of my vanity, but, after seeing yours, might want to try painting it. ๐
Marie, under All Things Behr Paint I’ve got all my painting projects. As long as the cabinet your considering isn’t stained w/ oil based stain, all you’d need to do is get Behr Ultra, it has primer in the paint! I would scuff the wood just a little w/ some fine sand paper and paint away! (I use satin finish on furniture usually) You can add a water based clear coat over the top if you want, but on this cabinet I simply distressed it w/ fine sand paper and didn’t worry about adding a top coat. (It’s distressed after all and the top is a vanity, not wood so no need to worry about that!)
Good luck! Let me know how your project turns out!
xo
Not this weekend but SOON, I have asked for MY husband to make a corner cabinet in our master bathroom. I really need some more storage and I thinkn that is the perfect solution. Right now extra towels are in MY CLOSET! Not good! Your b room turned out beautifully. Love the idea of the blow dryer storage, can you show us a close up of how that works??? Maybe Joe could make me one too. We are both so fortunate to ahve HANDY hubbies!!!!!!!!!!!! XO, Pinky
It’s so pretty, Robin! The extra touch inside the cabinets is very ,very clever.
Sprucing up our main bathroom is on my list for the year. We’ll see how far we get. It has hot pink and black tile, tub, toilet, and sink, so I’m not sure how much impact I can have on it, but I’ll try!
And the tv? I LOVE the idea. Cozy and relaxing!
Oh. Wow. What can I say? I love, love, love it! Love the lights. Love the soft colors. Love the shelf. Wonderful idea about the pretty soap/shampoo dispensers.
You’re so gifted, my dear. Such a decorating genius.
Love the paint job on the cabinets and the little white lights behind the curtain!
What a pretty place to soak in the tub, Robin! The transformation was sweet and simple, yet made a huge impact on the room! LUV those fairy lights behind the curtain, too! ๐ Now you’ve got me thinkin’ I’d better start simplifying my cabinets and closets……I feel the need to purge!!!

Oh my goodness, you’ve done a beautiful job. Will you come do one of my rooms? ๐
Ooh, you’ve got to tell me your paint color on the cabinet. I love it. ! Very nice job — would make me feel very peaceful to be in there at night soaking ๐
I love it! I wish our bathroom was larger so I had space to incorporate some of your ideas!
I just love the new look. Oh, and your pink chair!! Just lovely!!
I too have a TV in my bathroom. The main reason is so that I can watch the morning news while I get ready to go to work in the mornings. But I also love it when I am taking a bath too!
I absolutely love this look! So peaceful and clean. And the tiny lights behind the curtain – fabulous! May have to figure out a way to steal this idea and incorporate it somewhere in my house!
Fabulous results! Good thing you have a chair for your shadow to rest. ๐ Did you say that the bluish color is a homemade mix or is it a Home Depot color? I would like to look it up in person -looks gorgeous!
We are definitely soul sistas! LOL A Television in the bathroom makes PERFECT sense to our family! ha-ha ox
Love the color of your cabinets…XoXo
