What can be said of the horrific evil unleashed in Newtown Connecticut?
My daughter Emma called me yesterday, “Mom, I can’t do anything except sit in the floor and play with Lucy Jean and the whole time I’m crying thinking of those parents.”
I heard it in my girl’s voice, the pain, the empathy, the what-ifs …
“It’s okay Em” I told her. “When sorrow overwhelms you, pause and pray. Pray for the families, for God to be as near as their next breath. When you feel pain for them and you pray you are, in a small way carrying their burden.”
Carry one another’s burdens- Galatians 6:2
What a monumental endeavor to carry even a minute part of a burden so heavy.
One commentary says of this scripture that carrying one another’s burdens is to: “Have sympathy…and consider the case of a distressed brother as your own.
Considering the tragedy as our own is emotionally costly but so worth the cost if it leads us to pray.
Here is a list of the names of those lost in the shooting- I’m whispering them in prayer and praying for their families, maybe you’ll want to do that too.
And if you’d like to give, the United Way of Western Connecticut, in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank, has created the Sandy Hook School Support Fund that will provide resources and support services.
Sending you love sweet friends
