I think I need to explain…
I start Christmas early. My momma started Christmas early. I’m happy when I start Christmas early. I tend to have less stress in December when our house is decorated and my presents are wrapped.
And…decorating my home for Christmas is my most creative time of the year. And boy do I love that creative energy.
If you start your decorating after Thanksgiving I totally respect that. Either way, I’d love for you to hang out with me for a minute or two while I show you around Christmas in the living room!
I always change things up a bit…because like I said, I love the creativity required to decorate a space. Last year my tree was very neutral. This year I added some deep red. I mean you can’t go wrong with a little bit of red at Christmastime, right?
Christmas in the living room is all about little woodland creatures. I used rustic touches and combined them with a few refined elements. You know, opposites attract…
We have a big coffee table and I had a hard time styling it this year. So I asked for help! I put several different vignettes on my Instagram story and asked everyone to help me decide. (By the way, come over and join me on Instagram, we have a lot of fun! All Things Heart and Home Instagram.)
Here is the coffee table vignette that got the most votes…
Let’s talk mantels. Do you have one? I love mine except for that ginormous TV. That TV screams “look at me! Ignore everything else and look at me!”
To draw the eye away for that attention hog that is our entertainment, I like to have a kind of showy garland on the mantel.
I put the garland together using a few non-Christmas garlands from Hobby Lobby. (I found them over in the basic garland aisle)
I wanted it to really hang down, (again, drawing attention away from the TV). I tucked in some picks, added some ribbon and lights and I like it. I like it but I’ll tell you one thing, if one of the Littles grabs any part of that garland, the whole thing is coming apart! I don’t wire my picks in since I’ll most definitely change it up next year…
I took my time on the living room, it took me a good week, but that’s because I kept adding things and taking things away. Do you do that? Live with your decorating for a minute and then make some changes?
It takes a little longer but changing little things as I go is part of that creative process.
Do you feel your creative side take over during the holidays? I bet you do, it might be with cooking, entertaining, buying gifts, or maybe even decorating. Whatever you love just go with it. Enjoy every moment during the Christmas season.
So that’s it! Christmas in the living room. I’d love to hear about your decorating. Let’s talk in the comments or really…come on over to Instagram where I post loads of photos.
Oh! I also have a special Christmas Instagram account where I post photos that have inspired me. These photos are from all over. Pinterest, Google searches, and other Instagram accounts! All things Christmas inspiration in one place. Here’s how you get to my new account: Christmas Heart and Home ! I hope to see you there!
Whenever you start, happy decorating my friends~xoxo
