I have the sweetest Decoart Chalky Paint Inspiration Board to show you today!
When my friends at Decoart asked me to come up with a project using their Chalky Finish Paint I was so excited! I’ve never used any kind of chalk based paint but have been really wanting to try it!
Of course my mind went right to my craft room/office makeover that’s under way around here!
I want that room to be a perfect mix of rustic and refined…like my book page inspiration board!
This is how the inspiration board looked in the old project room…
The pink had to go, and how better to give the frame a makeover than with Americana Decor chalky paint…a paint that (usually) requires no sanding!
I used Serene paint and Clear & Deep Brown Creme Wax ...
I love the soft blue color, but honestly, it wasn’t an easy choice… there were so many colors to choose from!
The first thing I did was take out the center, (which is made of foam board cut to size) and painted the frame. The paint went on like a charm, filling the intricate details and covering in one coat…with NO sanding!
While the paint was drying I put the book page center together. After taking off the pink fabric I took some old books apart by removing the binding. I got these books for cheap at the thrift store and made sure that some of them had very yellow pages, to give the board some contrast.
Putting them on with a thin coat of adhesive (Matte Americana® Decou-Page)
I didn’t put them on in a row…and after I covered the entire board, I went back and added layers of pages to give it a bit more interest…
When the paint was dry, I applied the clear creme wax to the entire surface with the Decoart Americana Decor Waxing Brush and wiped off the excess with a clean rag…
Then I took the waxing brush and applied the deep brown creme wax and quickly wiped over the wax to take off some of it. (*I worked quickly with a small section at a time *)
The waxing brush is amazing, taking the dark wax deep into all the crevices …I lightly buffed the entire frame when I was done then lightly sanded the high spots…
Lastly, I added some twine and stapled the foam board back into the frame!
I know just where this will go in my new craft room/office…
And, I was thinking…Wouldn’t this be a fun Mother’s Day gift for the creative mom!?
You could make a smaller version and add a few mementos …
…and along with your small inspiration board, give your mom the paint, waxes and brush so she can create her own treasures!
I’ve already got another Chalky Paint project on my to-do list! Did I mention that you can now get these paints at your local Home Depot!??? Next time your pushing that big orange cart around the Home Depot, head over to the paint section and have a look!
Do you have an inspiration board somewhere in your space? If so, did you make it?
~Sending love ~
My buds at Decoart provided the paint, wax and brush for this project but you know me sweet friends…the opinions are all my own ~ xo

I knew I had seen somewhere that Home Depot had chalk paint, but I couldn’t remember if I had imagined it. Thanks Robin!
Diana, yes! Home Depot (at least most of them) have the paint! xo
Robin,
Your frame turned out beautifully. Guess when the rain lets up, I will be headed to Home Depot. I think they will see me as much as Hobby Lobby does. Can’t wait for the reveal of the craft room.
xo,
Tawn

Marty, thank you friend! I’ll head right over to your party and link up! xoox
That really turned out great. I have heard great reviews on these paints. xo Diana
Nana Diana, the paint was truly a pleasure to use, I’ve got other projects planned! ox
I see all kinds of possibilities with this project! How fun, and super inexpensive to put together. Great idea Robin! Can we find this paint in stores- or just online? You know I am craft illiterate!!
Vicky, most Home Depots are carrying the paint these days! xo
Not all of the Home Depots carry it, I had to order it online….just fyi. I haven’t tried it out yet, but I love your project!
Thank you so much Rhonda! I think it’s relatively new at the Home Depot and hopefully soon more stores will carry it! xo
I love this so much! That frame is absolutely to die for!
So cute!!! Love the color…same as what I have going on in my house! I love the book page background too. Adorable. Coming over from House on the Way. Cheers!

Robin, this is such a beautiful inspiration board! I love how the book pages play off the vintage vibe of the chalky finish painted frame! The colors you chose are so beautiful! Love these paints, and love the way you used them! 🙂
Laura, thank you so much my friend-have a wonderful day xo
Robin.
This is one of my most favorite things you’ve ever created. Oh, how I love it…and adding the girls’ pics to it just take it over the moon.
Absolutely Precious!
This is awesome, I adore the patina of old book pages, and what you have made makes it so they can be seen (as art) and used, so functional and beautiful to look at! Thanks for sharing!
I love this! I make these from my old frames but would have not thought to use the book page ideas. Thank you! Sharing on my FB page.
I absolutely LOVE this project! It is crazy awesome, going to share on my FB page today!
