Decorating for Christmas in the den is one of my favorite things to do!
In December, all around blog-land, you’re invited into the real-life homes of the bloggers. I love to steal a few minutes and visit, it’s like a virtual tour of homes, I find it inspiring to see the creativity of others. So for the next couple of posts, that’s what I’ll be doing. If you’re interested, welcome! If you don’t like this kind of thing…bear with me, I’ll be back to doing projects really soon!
I truly wanted to keep simplicity (my one-word for the year-posts HERE), transposed over all of my decorating this year.
So even though it took me a little longer to figure out what our new house needed to shine at Christmas time, I still kept the decorations simple. (HERE is the post about choosing a Christmas decorating theme)
One thing that we do that’s a little less-than-simple is a live Christmas tree in the den. For years we had artificial trees, but last year we decided it would be fun to take our granddaughter Ellie with us to choose a tree. As the other three granddaughter’s get a bit older we’ll have a crew going to get a tree! It may be less-than-simple, but it’s well worth all the trouble.
See…overall, the decorations are simple right?
The staircase is at the back of the den so in keeping with the snowy woodland theme, I added a bit of garland.
I needed to add some snow to the garland and it was going to be expensive to buy lots of picks, so I improvised! I found a big flocked wreath at Walmart for under 12 dollars…I snipped the branches off the wreath and wired them here and there into this garland! Super cheap!!!
Simple religious candles from the Dollar Store grouped together make a big impact…(posted HERE)
The snowflake pillows were a super quick project (HERE) and I’ll leave them out all winter.
Here’s a peek into the dining room which has a little different feel…
Now that we’ve seen Christmas in the den, if you’re interested, we’ll walk through the dining room tomorrow!

~Sending you love today my friends~
You did a great job in your new space. I can’t wait for your next post!!!!!!!!!! Your soft colors have inspired me to change our family room. We are going to change from cranberry to a soft blue/gray. Thanks for all you do and stay cozy. Blessings to you and your family.
So pretty! Thanks for sharing! I love to peruse the blogs this time of year when everyone shares their decorations, it fills my voyeuristic tendencies! ๐
So pretty! Seriously that fireplace wall is amazing. I love peeking in at your dining room.
I love it! I have been scouring the blogs I read for some ideas for Christmas decorating this year (I am drawing a huge blank)… I may have to “borrow” some of these ideas ๐
As usual Robin, it looks beautiful! You added just the right touches without adding too much. We too gave up our artificial tree about 6 years ago. I am so glad we went to a real one. It smells heavenly and it is a lot of fun going to pick the perfect one!
xxoo
It’s like stepping into a Christmas fantasy!!! Just beautiful, and yes, it is simple – yet oh-so-beautiful! Can’t wait to see the dining room.
Oh so cozy at night and beautiful during the day!! ๐ I love the simple theme. And I love a real tree!! We always get one. Mine is on my back porch waiting to bring in and decorate in a few days. ๐
Your home is so pretty and cheerful. Your holiday decorating add such a wonderful touch to it.
Beautiful as always! Thank you for sharing!
Ahhhhh… can I just come to Christmas at your house? I could sink right into one of the couches and never want to leave ๐ Breathtaking Robin….
Yes yes yes Vicky…all of you come south for Christmas!!!! xoxoxo
Thanks for sharing your awesome Ideas and have a Merry Christmas!
Hi. I love your blog. I love the coziness of the stone fireplace and mantel. I am searching for a mantel like yours. Can you tell me where you purchased it? What are the demensions?
Laurie, the mantle came with the house! It’s about 48″, the exact width of the fireplace! You could use a beam from an old building, maybe find it on Craig’s list or make a mantle…a box w/ some trim! Thank you for the sweet words friend~
