The Husband and I always do our outside decorating for Christmas on the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Most of you know we lived in our Willow Creek house for 23 years, so decorating at Willow Creek was easy and familiar. We knew just what our house needed. Here is Willow Creek a couple of years ago…
The new house was a bit different because we’re just getting to know her. After brain storming about the flavor of the decorations for Stone House Lane, both The Husband and I decided to keep it simple…there’s that word again ๐
Classic green wreaths with red bows on every window and to keep with my theme on the inside, we added two beautiful deer from The Home Depot…
Really, these deer are so lovely.
For the front porch I made a simple wreath with a few snowy branches tucked here and there and two pretty 5 foot lighted trees in urns.
Three spotlights and some timers and it’s a wrap!
So how about you? Do you decorate outside? If so, what’s your flavor…whimsical, traditional, woodland???

Your home looks beautiful ! Love the wreaths in the windows !
Priscilla, thank you honey! those wreaths in windows are a tried and true decoration aren’t they? xo
And the outside deer blend with your inside deer theme! So simply beautiful. And as Goge would say, “In such good taste.”

J…tell Ricky about my deer ๐ And tell him I said get busy so you can post pics!!! xoxo
Simply stated elegance ~
Thanks Daddy xo
Very pretty. Love the deer. ๐
Thanks Gina xoxo
Simply beautiful, Robin! Greenery and red ribbons are my favorite. We don’t do too much with the outside, except for lights outlining the deck, as my big project is my Christmas village. I put all my energy into setting it up a different way each year and it usually takes a good part of a day to get it done.
Eileen, looking forward to seeing your village this year!!! Instagram as soon as you finish xoxo
Oh Robin, the new house looks GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just last night I made a list of what to do at THIS new house this year. I know what you mean about the old house being easy: we knew just where everything went. This new space is a challenge. I am working on it tomorrow, today I have to make my wreath and one for my daughter. XO, P
Pinky, sooooo true! I will say that rethinking everything really gets your creativity flowing!!! xoxo
Robin- its breathtaking! The simplicity of it really showcases the new house. Its very pretty! Its cold and snowy and we have not yet gotten a single decoration up… yikes- our look will be anything the boys can come up with I am afraid… it’ll probably include at least 2 hockey sticks and a puck ๐
Vicky, honey you know me and snow…it sounds delightful! It’s 62* here today :0 xo
i think you did your new house in the most
lovely, simple style it deserves. i adore
the deer and may get some for my home.
thank you for the inspiration!
Lea, thank you honey! I think you would love those beautiful deer … go right over to the Home Depot and pick some up!!! xo
I do love your home and Chrstmas Decorations. I’m in a leased home at the moment so am limited as to what is allowed. I think we can put up some lights to trim the roofline and I keep looking for the small trees like you have at your front door. Everyplace I’ve checked, so far, are all sold out. I’ll keep looking though as I believe they would look nice by my front door also. Now if I could just get the upwards of 7 deer, that we have in our yard daily, to stand still while I put red bows around their necks, I could have my outside decorating ideas done! : ) Thanks, Robin, for all your beautifully elegant yet simplistic decorating ideas.
Ruth!!! Oh the idea that you could tie red ribbons on those sweet deer made me giggle! sending love my friendxo
Your home looks so charming and inviting- have a wonderful holiday season! Claire
thank you Claire, you have a Merry Christmas also xo
Your old home was gorgeous and so is your new! This was my first visit, but I’ll be back!
I know this is an old blog entry but I wanted to thank you for the ideas. We just moved across the country and we are renting for now until we settle in and know the area. I was wracking my brain about decorating without adding any holes for hooks or go up on super high ladders on this rental house. Your method with the spotlights is great. Thank you.
Christina…congratulations on your move! How much fun it’ll be decorating a ‘new’ place! sending love and looking forward to hearing about how you decorated this year…or better yet, send me a photo on my FB page! ox
