The Husband and I are about to start our next big project, aย waterfall and patio in the backyard!
My baby sis and her hubby did a waterfall and pond in their back yard 5 or 6 years ago, so on Father’s Day when I was there I took a few pictures!
Deb and Dean did this project all by themselves ( with the help of their then teenage sons)! It’s so beautiful. (FYI, our waterfall won’t be half as big as Deb’s and it’s going to be pondless)
This is a view from their upper deck, the sound of the water flowing over the rocks is just serene. And to make it even better, they can open the master bedroom windows and hear that soothing sound!
They have a bunch a fish and a few friendly frogs living in the pond…
The beauty of their waterfall and pond is that it fits into the landscape effortlessly. I think that’s a challenge when putting in a water feature,ย placing all of your elements so they don’t look out of place.
But I have to show you this shot that I took in 2009, just a couple of years after they put in the waterfall…the landscape was still new and the trees much smaller…
As the landscape around the waterfall matured the waterfall looks like it’s been there forever and a day…
Perfect backyard harmony…
Do any of you have a water feature in your yard? If you do, did you do it yourself??? The Husband and I would love any advice you have about the process ๐
Have a day full of serenity my friends

Robin this is so pretty. Sorry no water features here I would worry about mosquito issues. Here in NC they are terrible especially in July and August.I love the idea and find water very calming.
Beautiful! I’ve always wanted one in our rock garden but don’t have one yet.
I can feel the peace right through the pictures! Deb and Dean did a magnificent job. You and The Husband will too–plus you’ll have fun doing it together. ๐
We had a large pond at our last house and I still miss it! My husband started out building it but then we got help to finish. If you want large boulders then you need equipment to move them…that’s why we hired help.
There are several things we learned and will tweak when we build one at this house.
-There is maintenance to do each season including cleaning filters and pulling leaves and moss out.
-You want to make sure you have an adequate pump. Be prepared to buy new pumps because they break.
-Next time we will build a smaller pond. My husband got a little carried away with the Bobcat that he rented and we had a big hole! The pond held 7,000 gallons of water.
How gorgeous! I can’t wait to see your rendition. I share your home projects with my hubby and he did a Mike inspired shelf for our bathroom–I’ll have to e-mail you a pic so Mike can see. The arch doorway, however, my hubby’s not even going to attempt to do! He said, “Mike must be an engineer.” I don’t know if Mike is or not, but I know you got a keeper, Robin. Have fun!
No- no water features- we already have mosquitos as big as birds buzzing around- open water around the house doesn’t work all that well. But I love that you can- and will! Can’t wait to see- pretty sure I live vicariously through you and Mike and your projects- love them so!
That is beautiful. Can’t wait to see yours. Haha, we have a natural water feature…a couple of natural springs that we didn’t realize till after we had lived here for awhile. (We excavated the property and built our home.) That’s the kind you do NOT want. :/ We have another one just a short distance from our house that litterally becomes a creek! Just so you know, I have a mountain right behind my house. ๐
Love it! Thanks for sharing…maybe some day. After Mike finishes my porch:)
This is gorgeous!! My hubby and I are currently building a pond with a small waterfall but it’s nothing like this!! Awesome!!~~Angela
We built a waterfall and pond here as well. I laughed as I went over the page and saw things like “tour Stone House Lane” and gluten free recipes. We are Stoney Creek Lane and relish those gluten free recipes, since 5 members of this family cannot tolerate any wheat gluten! I’ve had fun on these pages! Our pond is only in year one and looking better all the time. I can’t wait for more plants to mature! I adore my fish and love watching the frogs leap into the water and swim all stretched out. Tadpoles that turned into precious tinier than ever frogs, have kept the family intrigued for hours. The only tip I have for anybody is that if you experience green water, small bales of barley straw will cure it naturally. You can just put them in now and save yourself from seeing that mucky green water! I have no regrets in building this. Best thing we’ve ever done…it has been my healing place…
Wendy, I’m so happy to meet you! I can’t wait to tell my husband that you love your pond! He’s gotten a mixed review from people, some saying it’s too much trouble, nevertheless I’m determined to hear running water from my porch! I’m sorry that so many of your family have gluten issues, but it sounds like you’re an expert. I’d love for you to share your favorite GF recipe with me so I can try it!!! my email is : rrg723atyahoodotcom xoxo
That is beautiful! Projects like this can add so much value to a home. You do want to be aware what a water feature will do for the insect population in your yard. I’d suggest against this if mosquitos are a problem as the water will attract them.
Gerber Construction, we’re doing a pondless waterfall, wonder if that will help with the problem of mosquitos…the water will be running and there will be no standing water! I hope so ๐
Congratulations it looks very nice I’d love to have something like that in my backyard!
