I think most of you know that I can’t get enough of all-things watercolor! I’ve been playing with paints a little bit although I’m in NO way an artist! I’ve just been playing, so if you’re a painter, have mercy!!!
I have a couple of watercolor projects but the first one is this Easy breezy summer art! No kidding anyone can do this!
My granddaughter Ellie started me on this watercolor craze when she surprised me with this beautiful little painting!
I was so enamored with Ellie’s pretty picture that I Pulled out my pallet of watercolors and started washing everything in sight with color 🙂
For this project though, I ended up using watered down acrylic craft paint…
I found 3 thin canvases on sale and used some brushes that on hand.
Like I said, I’m no artist so I googled free clip art and printed out some simple images & cut them out…
Here are the craft paint colors I used…
For the little sailboat painting, I painted the canvas first using watered down paint in all the colors I love (I found the more water the better) Let it dry then…using a picture mounting spray adhesive I stuck the ‘stencil’ of the shape on the canvas…
Then with watery paint dot some color inside the stencil-then load the brush with a little water and drip it over the color and spread around inside your shape. Work rather quickly…
It’s a mess when you peel up the paper…which did pull off some of the paint-but no worries, you can add more paint to hide the damage!
Take a flat brush – dip in water and dab some of the water off…then gently clean up the edges. The brush will take off the excess paint – then wipe off your brush and dip in water and continue slowly taking off the excess until your painting looks nice!
I cleaned up the edges and then after an hour added a bit of watered down paint to the bottom of the boat! Really you can’t mess up, you can always repaint!
I did the seahorse the same way…adding stripes after I cleaned up the edges…
I want you to see how messy the seahorse looked when I peeled off the shape…I thought I’d never fix this one.
But in a jiffy with a watery brush, she cleaned up nicely!
With the anchor I did something different…I cut out the anchor and placed it onto the unpainted canvas with the spray adhesive…
Then I painted the canvas …after it looked all watery and muted here’s what it looked like (before I pulled off the shape)
Then st use your flat brush to clean up the inside of your shape…
Again, don’t worry if the adhesive leaves some glue behind, you can scrape it off…
Watering down beautiful blues and greens on a canvas was so relaxing. You can do this even if you aren’t an artist 🙂 And it’s kinda nice for summer decorating!
Do you guys paint? If so, I’m soorrryyy! I know this is a butchered tutorial 🙂
~Have a color-filled day my friends~
xo
Great job, Robin. I love the soft effect of the water color and the calming of the blues.
I LOVE these! The fact that they’re doable but no two will be exactly like yours if they’re done is so fun!
I love this little craft- and something I could do. Thanks for showing us how you did it. Maybe I will try this sometime this summer.
I love it. I have a bedroom with a nautical theme what an awesome idea for the room. As always you have many clever projects. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful! I love the subject matter of your art! You make it sound very easy but I am sure that you also have quite a bit of talent here. I would bet that if you went on to try other pictures you might just surprise yourself. Great job, they are awesome!
So there IS hope for me and painting! Such a beautifully simply idea!
I’ll make sure Katie sees this. When she was little, she wanted to become a painter one day. 🙂
I think they look awesome!! Great way to add a summer feel to your home!! 🙂
My watercolor “cheat” is to draw/color on watercolor paper with watercolor colored pencils, then “paint” over the drawing with water…
I love the blue tones you used in your nautical triptych.
They’re darling! My mother used to paint with water colors and I wish she would go back to them. We’ve tried so much to inspire her with paints and kits, and books, etc. to no avail. Love that you are dipping into something so new and enjoying it so much!
O, these are sooo cute. I want ’em !! 🙂
I could never, in one thousand years, paint like this. We are about to move into our son’s guest house, behind his beautiful pool, and I am looking hi and lo for something JUST LIKE THESE to use in my dining area that’s right beside the pool.
Do you paint to sell ???
I don’t paint, and I’m very impressed with what you’ve done here! They look beautiful!
Ohhh! These are lovely! I think even I can do something like this. Thanks for sharing!
you can totally do this Karen!!! xo
I love this. You come up with the best stuff.
And Ellie’s painting is so pretty!
Have a great weekend!
Inspirational, thank you! Will try something like this:)
No worries Robin…we are all artists in our own way. I love what and how you created these watercolor canvases…you have inspired me to create something like this too. Thanks for the inspiration!
