I’ve no idea why DIY Body Butter appeals to me. Really, you can buy the stuff anywhere right?
But here’s the thing… I love the idea of knowing exactly what’s in the moisturizer..love adding a few drops of my favorite essential oil…and love the way my skin feels when I use this creamy dreamy stuff!
I just recently started experimenting with essential oils…but don’t worry, I’m not going to try to sell you any!
So far, I’ve used my essential oils as follows: I diffuse them for aromatherapy and I use them in projects (like my Lavender Candles) and now in this body butter!
For this project, I ordered my oils and shea butter from Bulk Apothecary (at a great price)- and used Frankincense essential oil from Young Living. (Because I had it and I do love that smell!)
It’s super easy…just measure your ingredients (except for the oil) into a mason jar…
Put the jar into an inch of water and heat over medium until everything is melted…
Take the jar out of the water…
Let it cool until it becomes opaque…
Then mix in the essential oil …
At this point my mixture was very thin so I put the bowl into the fridge and left it for 25 minutes…
Then I whipped it again and spooned it into these cute jars…
Never in the history of all my projects have my hands been so soft and smooth when I was done!
(This can be stored in the fridge or at room temp. for 2 months)
*The consistency of my body butter was more like cold cream…anybody remember cold cream? 🙂 I think it was because I used fractionated coconut oil which is liquid as opposed to the solid coconut oil…next time I’ll try the solid to see if I like the consistency better!*
*And next time I’ll double or triple the batch so I can give some away!*
1/2 cup Shea Butter
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
1/4 cup Sweet Almond Oil
2 tablespoons Beeswax Pellets
10-20 drops of essential oil
Into a quart size Mason Jar, measure out everything except the essential oil –
Place the jar into a pot of water (about 1 – 1 1/2 ” of water)
On medium heat allow the mixture to melt-
When melted, remove your jar from your pot and let the mixture cool- it will become opaque-
Now add your essential oil-stirring in with a spoon-
Put mixture into a bowl and whip for 2 or 3 minutes-
Put in fridge for 15 minutes and then whip again until you get to the consistency you want-
