My friends at DecoArt asked me to do a little Earth day project. Since there’s nothing I love more than a cute up cycle, I knew just what I’d do!
You know all about Earth Day right?
Earth Day is an event, celebrated on April 22 every year. This year marks the 46th year of this movement which was first celebrated in 1970. Now it’s celebrated in more than 192 countries bringing attention to environmental issues.
There are lots of things you can do to help the Littles in your life understand how important it is to take care of our resources, but one of my favorite things to do is to upcycle!
These cute containers, started as cans…
Five year old Lucy Jean and I have been talking about taking trash and turning it into something usable and even pretty…
Painting old cans is about the easiest upcycle ever…
Just peel the label and wash the can…
We used Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint on the cans and it covered like a dream…
Then we decorated the cans with hot glue, lace and bakers twine…
Here’s what we came up with to take to Lucy’s teachers!
Since the can upcycle, we’ve been thinking about other trash items we could take to treasures!
We love this idea for useless keys…
And after we dye eggs for Easter, we’re going to keep the carton and make a pretty wreath for Lucy’s bedroom door…
And for older kids, these coasters from old clothes or sheets are fun!
And something for old jeans…how cute is this!
Have you ever talked to your little people about upcycling?
(Thanks to my friends at DecoArt for sponsoring this post)
Your projects are so cute! But what are you going to turn the plastic bottles the paint comes in into? lol
Is there room at the art table for me?
My inner child has been stirred! Will Lucy Jean let me copy whatever she’s doing today?
