Somewhere around the finish of The Husband’s back-yard project, I started re-doing a few things in our master bathroom. If you know me, you know that my projects always include The Husband, I’m the idea half of this team and he’s the get-it-done half!
I had this idea about doing a shelf that would hold my towels (which I’ll show you when I’m done w/ the bathroom) and as usual, The Husband made it happen. When 9 month pregnant daughter Stephanie saw it, she thought it would be perfect for a book shelf in Ellie’s room! The Husband has never turned down a request from one of the kids so in about an hour he whipped up this little ditty!
(Please understand, Stephanie is about to give birth and she’s already decorated Elliot’s room for the holidays in order to save time and energy when the baby comes…hence the beautiful display of children’s Christmas books!)
Okay, now back to business, The Husband says this is a super easy and quick project and honestly it adds as much charm as function to Elliot’s room!
Easy Display Bookshelf~All Things Heart and Home

* 2 – 8 foot pieces of decorative trim (you’ll have some left-over)
*3 – 3/8″ wooden dowels
* Wood Filler
* Wood Glue
*Small finish nails
*Wood screws (about 24 – 1×8″)
* 4 “L” Brackets & anchors
~Drill with 3/8 ” bit
~Circular Saw or Jig Saw
1- Cut 1 x 4 ‘s to make a box-ours was 30″ wide x 48″ tall
2- Screw and glue the corners
3- Using 1 x 4’s — add 3 shelves
4- Screw and glue shelves on sides & counter-sink screw heads – then fill those holes with wood filler
5- Add trim to the edge of shelves using glue and finish nails. Fill in tiny nail holes with wood-filler
6- Drill holes where you want dowels to hold in books (this depends on the size of books you’ll display!)
7- Insert dowels and sand flush–use wood filler to smooth holes
8- Lightly sand your project, paying attention to areas where you’ve used wood-filler
9- Paint (you know I always use Behr paint!)
10- Hang with “L” brackets and anchors just to be safe since a little person may decide to pull on the shelf!
Display your favorite books!
Stephie will change the books out as the seasons change…what a wonderful way to enjoy some of those gorgeous children’s book covers!
Three cheers for The Husband!
~Love to you my friends~
