Football season is about to be in full swing and when my friends at DecoArt asked me to do a project having to do with team sports, I thought I’d make an easy DIY sign!
Around our house, fall football is our Saturday and Sunday afternoon soundtrack. It’s a harbinger of fall and for that reason, I love it.
I have a husband, a son and a couple of SIL’s that love football for other reasons…like, the actually love the game! 🙂 My son and one SIL are SEC fans, so with them in mind, I made this cute sign…
Not only was it easy…
But it was cheap! I found this not-so-pretty clock on sale for under $3.00!
After removing the hands and the battery box on the back, I painted the whole clock in Americana Chalky Finish Paint in LACE . Then lightly sanded the whole thing so some color would show through.
In PicMonkey, I made this little sign and printed it out…(I’ll give you this as a printable at the end of the post!)
With a pencil I (pressing hard), colored on the back of my print where the letters are-
Then after placing the print (letter side up), on the clock where I wanted the letters to go, I traced over the letters with a pen. (pressing down hard)
The pencil acts as a transfer medium for the letters…
Using a black Sharpie Permanent marker, I traced the letters…
Then using Americana MultiSurface Satin in Dark Scarlet , I filled in some of the letters! When everything was dry, I lightly sanded over the letters. The light sanding over the letters makes any mistakes disappear!
For an easy DIY sign, this technique is my favorite.
And I kinda like what this one says 🙂
Do you love football season? If so: College-Professional-Both?
And if you happen to be an SEC fan, here’s a PDF you can print out to make your own sign…
