For nearly two weeks straight it was bone chilling cold and gray here in the deep south of the US. Don’t misunderstand, I love inclement weather…love snuggling in with a good book and eating soups or chili in front of a roaring fire … but after so many gray, cold days I needed a lift.
Which is probably why I pulled out some doilies and red gingham ribbon. Doilies and red gingham make me feel happy.
Sometimes when it’s been cold and gloomy for a very long time, something quite ordinary can bring you the tiniest tickle of joy. And friends…when you feel joy, no matter how small…embrace it.
The lovely thing about this project, besides the fact that it uses doilies and red gingham, is…you don’t need many things…
*Styrofoam Wreath Form (I used a 10″)
*Doilies (for a 10″ wreath- I used about 45-50 medium size doilies)
*Ribbon
*Straight pins
Make a little “flower” with your doily by pinching it in the center…
…and bunching it up, leaving a “stem”.
Trim the “stem”…
Now grab your shorter “stem” and bunch it up…
Put a straight pin through the “stem”…
You can make the little flowers all at once or one at a time…
When you’re ready, start sticking them into the wreath form …experiment & reposition to get the wreath to look just right…
Pin a bit of ribbon to the back…
And there you have it! A happy little wreath that will work for winter, spring or summer! (Add a paper heart in the center and it is perfect for Valentine’s Day!)
This wreath is similar to the one I did with Coffee Filters…HERE (there’s a video tutorial on this project)
And for a little more winter fun…go HERE for Borax Snowflakes (the kids will love this!)
And for a little Valrentine’s Day fun…go HERE
~Sending love my friends~
I used Doilies and a Styrofoam Wreath Form for this edition of My Year of Reckless Crafting!
Very cute, Robin! I’m thinking it might be a good granddaughter project if I can find enough doiles.
This is really a cute wreath, Robin! I love how the doilies give it a lacy look. We had the same weather last week. Very dreary! I was so glad I had the bright and cheery baby blanket I am crocheting to work on. Because, as you said, embrace it when it brings you joy! And, crocheting does bring me joy! xxxooo
Crazy as it sounds, I almost texted you the other day to say, “I need a wreath. What do I do? It’s too early for 4th of July.” So I bought the green one from Target. I’ve never made a wreath, but Robin, I believe I could make this one.
I really do! And I love it!
Thank you! Wreath-making and walking into Hobby Lobby are scary for me. :/
J…you could absolutely make this one! Having said that … I LOVE LOVE LOVE your wreath from Target! ox
Cute and looks easy enough for me to make 🙂 Thank you for the inspiration Robin <3
