I’m completely enamored with the trend of using plants in your decor and will be doing several more projects in the near future involving decorating with plants! I’m learning a lot about live plants but wanted to tell you how to add a beautiful terrarium to your environment even if you don’t have a green thumb!
I saw this little beauty online and fell head over heels…this one was listed for $168.00!
Pretty glass plant enclosures were originally called Wardian Cases. They were used in the 19th century to protect plants imported to Europe from overseas. Now days we use them as terrariums.
I found mine at Hobby Lobby. I fell in mad love with everything about this little beauty and it was 50% off! (The $29.00 price tag would have seemed steep before I saw the price of some of the ones online!)
Isn’t she perfect?!
A vintage chippy look with delicate details…
Making a faux terrarium is ever-so-much easier than putting together a live terrarium! Here’s all you’ll need:
*Container
*Styrofoam if you want to give your landscape inside the terrarium a lift, since you aren’t using dirt in the bottom!
*Moss-I used sheet moss & Sphagnum moss
*Plants-I used succulents. There are amazing faux succulents at Hobby Lobby-they are gorgeous-some of mine came two or three plants to one stem, I cut them apart for better placement.
*Floral pins-I used these to attach sheet moss to the Styrofoam
***
Wrap the sheet moss around the Styrofoam and attach it with pins. Then add some Sphagnum moss here and there- building up in the corners like a little hill.
Add your plants-just make the placement pleasing to your eye and then gently stick the stems into the Styrofoam. You may have to use a screwdriver to poke a hole through the sheet moss before you place your stem. (You can also use your floral pins to secure plant stems)
This little project is too quick and easy to have such a WOW factor!
Can you tell I’m ready for spring?
Do you use plants or flowers inside? If so what kind ???

Great idea to use the faux succulents!!! I just saw another blogger do a real one. I just wish I had a terrarium!!! BUT, with the faux ones I could use any container. Thanks for the inspiration! (You are gonna love my new winter wreath I just made). I’ll be posting that soon!!! XO, Pinky
I love this idea! Faux is the way to go. Thanks for the inspiration. I am definitely making this.
This is beautiful! I don’t have a green thumb either so this is perfect for me. Thanks for joining the Open House party.

I just love your faux terrarium!! And I love that terrarium that you used…. I was wondering how long ago did you buy it? I am asking because I would love to go and get one like it. I would love to do a little fairy garden in it. Can you also tell me how big it is and was the 50% off before or after the $29.00?
Thank you so much!!! Rain
Hi Lorraine, I got it at the end of January at HObby Lobby and it was 29.00 after the 50% off. I’ve seen lots of others but none exactly like this one. I think Hobby Lobby might be your best bet, if I see one somewhere else I’ll shoot you an email! Good luck, let me know if you do one! xo
