The holidays are in full swing with Thanksgiving (in the US) approaching and Christmas not far behind! While I love nothing more that creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, I also want to have time to enjoy that warm and welcoming atmosphere!
So in the coming weeks, I’m going to share some quick and easy projects that will give your home all the holiday coziness without sapping your time and energy!
And for my first quick, easy and cheap project, I’m making a pillow from a placemat!
This took all of 10 minutes to make and it cost $4.00…
I started with a Target placemat but any placemat will do! All our favorite stores have really pretty placemats out right now.
Just make sure that the mat is doubled…that it has a front piece of fabric and a back piece of fabric sewn together.
Using a seam ripper, open up about 6 inches by pulling out every few stitches…. This mat was double sewn but it’s easy to take out one layer of stitches and then go to the next… And you only have to take out about 6 inches! (just enough to get some stuffing inside!) I used stuffing from an old pillow to stuff my new pillow… Then, if you have a sewing machine, stitch the hole closed. If you don’t have a sewing machine, use small straight stitches to close your opening…
I love this sweet little pillow and seriously, it took me longer to write this blog post than it did to make the pillow!Lots of ADORABLE placemats at Target since they’ve just started putting out all the Christmas decorations!
Let me know if you try this and have a wonderful weekend my friends xo
