I love shadow boxes! They’re great for displaying mementoes, especially in kid’s rooms. And they make fun frames. And if you start with a plain wood shadow box from the craft store, you have a blank canvas that you can personalize for any space or occasion!
And by occasion, I’m thinking how fun these would be at a birthday party or a family get together…
Can’t you imagine these decorating your buffet table painted and papered in something cohesive with your party theme!? Or on the cake table at your next birthday party!?
If you have a minute, I’ll show you how easy these are!
Here’s What You Need
*Shadow Boxes
*Paint
*Decou-Page decoupage medium
*Decoupage paper
*Sand Paper (If you like a worn, rustic look)
Paint the whole box- let dry…
Decide where you want your paper and cut it decoupage it on.
After it’s dry, lightly sand (if you want to) and apply a top coat of decoupage medium.
Tuck photos inside the boxes and stack them! Add a little string of LED lights for a little extra fun…
I’m thinking about ordering some prints from past parties and covering 6 or 8 more shadow boxes in fall colors…
For some fun decor at our big Fall Party this October!
It’s so brutally hot here that I can’t help thinking about fall blowing in and cooling everything off!Have a great day my friends ~ ox
This post is part of my Year of Reckless Crafting!
For this project, for the first time, I used: wood shadow boxes!
Oh my gosh, I love this idea! I am in the midst of preparing for a surprise baby shower for my daughter-in-law. One of my ideas was to display baby pictures of her and my son but couldn’t decide on how to hang/arrange them! Will give this a try!
Christiann, that’s a GREAT idea! If you do the boxes in paint/paper that goes with with nursery, they could use them for the baby’s photos! ox (I’d love to see a photo after the shower!)
Shadow boxes have always been a favorite of mine. You can do so much with them. I even like taking some items and making a scene with them inside the shadow box too. Your idea, Robin, would be nice for holidays where you change your photo memories out depending on the holiday. xxoo
Eileen, I love the idea of making a scene inside the boxes! And for saving and displaying mementos …Shadow boxes are good for so much! ox

I’m dropping by from the Something to Talk About link party. This is such a clever, cute idea! I especially love the lights around the boxes.
I have a link party that I am trying to grow. I invite you to share this idea — and a couple of others — at my Grandma Ideas Sharing Time link party at http://grandmaideas.com. I think my readers would love this idea as much as I do.
The party goes from Wednesday through Friday night at midnight. I hope to see you there.
All the best,
Nina
These are so sweet! What a nice idea that’s very easy to do!
Your frames look fantastic! Thanks for sharing your crafty inspiration on this week’s Monday Funday Party!
What a great way to create a beautiful space with something simple! Pinning this as I want to make these for our bedroom.
This looks awesome! So creative! Thanks so much for linking up with our Living With Style Linky Party. Hope you’ll join us again soon…
Where did you buy the boxes?
At Michael’s or any craft store!
Thank you.
Thanks for your comment about how shadow boxes make good decorations for parties and reunions. I like how you said that you can get a lot of things to make them at craft stores. I appreciate your DIY, and I would like to have some for my daughter’s birthday party. However, since I lack the time and talents to make them myself, I am considering shopping for boxes.
