At this point in the holidays, the point where it’s just over a week away from Christmas Day, I could change my name to Martha.
You know Martha. The one who complained to Jesus because she was doing all the work while her sister Mary sat at His feet.
Jesus spoke these words to Martha…to Martha’s everywhere, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.”
To be fair, I’m not really worried or upset about the holidays, I’d say it’s more like- borderline frantic and busy with just a splash of worry thrown in, making the whole holiday concoction hard to swallow.
But this morning before the sun was up, I sat down in my quiet tree-lit den. Prayer journal and Bible in my lap, coffee in hand and my mind gearing up for the holiday homestretch.
Me, sitting there like Mary, waiting before the Lord. At least, my body was sitting there.
My mind…well that’s a different story. My mind was somewhere else. Actually, my mind was someone else. In my head I was busy in the kitchen getting ready for my family party coming up in a few days. My mind was full on Martha.
Then I remembered… I don’t have to be Martha this year. I can be Mary. “Mary”, the Lord said:
“has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.”
Today I will choose what is better. I’ll slow down and pay attention to the moment I’m standing in. Smile at a passersby. Give a little encouragement to the overworked cashier. Take time to write a note to someone who’s been on my heart.
Today, in the middle of this last minute rush, I will slow time by being Mary.

If you have a little person at home who might want something fun to do, these easy twig ornaments might be fun! Older kids can do these with no problem and younger Littles can help!

Can something as simple as twigs be used to make Christmas ornaments? You’re nodding yes! Of course!
Even the simplest things can be used to make decorations for the tree!
I decorated the tree on my screen porch (mostly) with ornaments that I made in 5 minutes or less.
There’s the twig star, I showed you how to make this easy ornament HERE…
And then there’s this cute twig frame!
My twig fixation started with this little bundle from Hobby Lobby…
When I took the bundle apart, I was surprised to find so many twigs…
This is a Christmas card from the Dollar Spot at Target! I am so loving plaid this year so I knew I’d find a way to use these cute cards!
Cut the twigs to frame out the card…
Use hot glue to adhere the twigs to the front of the card…
In a jiffy, you’ve got a frame!
Open the card and put a strip of glue…
Put twine on the hot glue strip and close the card, pressing until the glue is dry…
These ornaments cost almost nothing and they are so quick and easy you can make them in no time!
And one more twig ornament…
This is a 2 minute project! Tiny Wood Bundles!
I cut some twigs in similar lengths and hot glued them together…
Then tied them with cotton lace…
These are ridiculously easy and they look so cute on the tree…
Whatever you’re doing today my friends…enjoy your moments.
Love these ideas! And so easy. Especially the cards. Yesterday I thought they were little chalk boards. So clever Robin!!
They do look like little chalk boards don’t they!!!?? thank you find ox
So cute, Robin! Wish I had time to craft, but I will just be lucky to just get it all together by a week from today. I hope to get a head start on next year between Christmas and New Year’s since we won’t have our daughter and family with us this year…bummer! Can’t wait to try some of your twiggy ideas if I can get my hands on a twig bundle…all our twigs here in AZ seem to have stickers!
Judy, Merry Christmas my friend…I’m feeling a little behind this year too. I’m sorry you won’t have your girl and the family with you guys this year…enjoy the quiet and yes! Get a head start on next year!!! ox
The twigs are so cute! What a very creative and resourceful idea! I love it.
Robin, these are absolutely adorable. So sweet and rustic and beautiful–all mixed together.
Loved the Heart in this post!
Love you!!
