I’ve been having fun getting the yard summer-ready and thought I’d make a colorful sign for the playground area.
I wanted something really easy and I didn’t want to ask Mike for help (I want him to rest so he can recover quickly from the drama of the past 5 weeks!) When I think of easy wood projects, it doesn’t get any easier than using wood shims! I love those thin pieces of perfectly cut wood, they’re similar to paint stirrers but better because they come in bundles of a bazillion for super cheap!
I think The Littles will love this sign and it makes me think of sherbet!
If you’ve got a second, I can show you how!
Here’s What You Need:
*Wood Shims (from your local home improvement store)
*Sand Paper
*Small piece of 1″ thick wood to glue the shims on-
*Wood Stake to mount sign on
*Glue
These Patio Pants are amazing…have you used them? They come in LOADS of colors and you can paint on almost ANYTHING.
They are weather resistant and take only one step…no need to use a sealer! (See all the information HERE)
I picked Coral Sunset-Citrus Green and Blue Bahama …(and Gray Skies & Cloud White for mixing)
Aren’t these colors dreamy?! I love each one of them but if you hang out with me, you know how I’m drawn to less saturated colors…no worries! I mixed some of the gray and the white with each color to soften them…
After painting the shims with the softer version of these scrumptious colors, I stacked them in the order I would later glue them together…then used the stencil and a pencil to trace my letters!
Then simply filled in the letters with a tiny brush and white patio paint…
When the paint was dry, I lightly sanded over everything ti give it a weathered look…
Next, I glued the shims to a piece of thicker wood that I cut to exact size of my sign…
When the glue was dry, I screwed the painted stake to the thicker wood…
This sign is so cute at the entrance to the playground area of the yard…
Like I said before, the colors remind me of sherbet which sounds really yummy and refreshing right about now!
I’d actually like to have an entire wall in the playroom done in wood planks and painted in these colors!
I love adding a little something new to the yard when the weather warms up. Are you doing any projects in your yard? If so, pick up some Patio Paint and let the fun begin!
Have a lovely day my friends~ xo
(DecoArt sent me the Patio Paint to try but of course the Patio-Paint-Love is all mine!)
Super cute idea. Love the colors!
Very cute!great job!
Love the Colors! I’m envious of your plants, too. Just now got some of mine in the pots. Hope you and Mike are beginning to see “normal” again.
