Decorating for fall with natural elements is just …well, natural! The other day when I was visiting my friends at Woodstock Furniture Outlet I met their visual designer Diane. She told me about some of her plans for fall vignettes at the store. Cotton Branches were one of the elements she using this autumn…I love it!
Cotton is big business in Georgia and has been since the late 18th century. My mama told me she remembered picking cotton with her grandma, it’s hard for this city girl to imagine, Mama picking cotton.
But it’s not hard to imagine Mama decorating with cotton branches, if she were still here she’d love the idea of decorating for fall with natural elements…especially cotton branches.
Isn’t it wonderful how the rustic feel of the branches and the clean lines of the candles and vases are perfection in this rainy window…
Look at how many natural elements are in this rustic wedding tablescape…
As many elements as the table above had, I love this simple cylinder with a cotton branch…
And as beautiful as the cotton branch is in a glass cylinder, an enamel pitcher seems a more suitable vessel…
This little centerpiece from Southern Living is perfect for adding a little fall to your space…
And how ever-so-lovely is this…chalkboard label & twine on a galvanized French flower bucket full of gorgeous cotton branches…
You can get cotton branches at your local floral supply or online HERE.
What’s your favorite natural element to use in your fall decorating? In the next couple of weeks I’m going to be looking at some other natural elements for fall decorating!
Sending love my sweet friends
xo
How lovely. I absolutely love all of the cotton. I wish I could get my hands on some!
Sharon, I wish I could send you a bunch of beautiful branches! I found some at a floral design store…I love the idea that we could try it with branches and cotton balls! xo
Gorgeous! Never saw Cotton branches before except a picture of cottom fields when studying Eli Whitney in grade school. I’m a non-traveling northerner. Guess I’ll look around my yard to see how I can bring nature indoors. We do have pinecones and branches with various berries but I use them for winter. Hmm, maybe I can preserve some beautiful maple branches once the color peaks next weekend. Thanks for the prompt.
I haven’t thought about Eli Whitney in a hundred years!!! Maple branches would be so stunning in an arrangement on the table! love it! xo
Oh, Robin! I love this. I didn’t know you could buy cotton branches–thanks for the info. This brings back so many memories. My mamma picked cotton, too. My parents are from Alabama (moved to Illinois in the 1950’s for jobs) and I remember visiting my grandma who still had a cotton patch. I’d go out in the field and feel the cotton. At one time I thought of starting a blog and calling it “Cornfields and Cotton Patches” sharing all the southern hospitality tips this Yankee girl learned from her southern roots. Maybe one day…. xxoo
Marie, you MUST start a blog called Cornfields and Cotton Patches!!!! I love it so much! xo
Hi Robin! You could take bare branches and add cotton balls and get this effect.
Diana, that is the BEST idea!!!! I might just try that my creative & brilliant friend!

Sandy, You picked cotton! Mama said it was painful and prickly! Did it hurt your sweet fingers!? xo
No I cut it with my garden sheers and was very careful not to get stuck. It is kinda like roses just watch the thorns 🙂 LOve your blog 🙂

I’ve never seen cotton branches used in decorating – guess because I’m in the Midwest! They remind me of little snowballs…I bet you could do some fantastic winter decorating with these, too!

Your blog was just shared with me and I LOVE it!! We recently moved to Alabama from the West Coast and love it. Just outside of town, there are some cotton fields that we’ve stopped at to pick a few bolls from. Looking forward to receiving your emails. Beautiful blog!
Amber, I’m so happy to meet you my new friend! I’m off to visit you! xo
I LOVE the cotton wreath!! I think it would be great for Christmas. Looks like soft, fluffy snow balls. All these photos are great with the cotton.
How can I preserve some real cotton branches I have?
Katie, that’s a good question…I have no idea but I imagine you could Google! Have a great day my friend ox
