Simplicity…my one-word for 2012. As always, my one-word for the year touches my life in ways that surprise.
This week I’m learning something else about simplicity. If you filter anything through simplicity, eventually, a beautiful calm follows.
Our big Family Fall Party is this Saturday. We’ve done this every year for 8 years. As is my tendency, I usually make a big deal out of the party. This year though, I started feeling not-so-good at the end of last week. I’ve been so exhausted and finding it difficult to do what I want to do to get ready for the party. I’m not sick, this deep weariness comes along every once in a while and is associated with autoimmune issues. I’ve learned to manage it by not pushing myself.
But the weariness came along at a bad time. I need to push this week, my FAM is coming!!!
As I searched my mind to figure out what I needed to do and how exactly to get everything done, I kept thinking about my one-word for the year.
What if Simplicity came to this years party?
What if all the planning and all the prep work was first filtered through that lovely word…simplicity?
So that’s what I’m doing.
Instead of barbecue and all that goes with it, this year we’re having big pots of chili.
I’m making this Three Bean~Three Pepper Chili (recipe HERE) It’s my favorite chili recipe 🙂
I’m forgoing table decorations and trusting that the 30 of us sitting across the tables from each other, laughing and making that important family-connection will be decoration enough.
Instead of having 8 or 10 desserts we’ll have only 4 or 5. I’m making:
There’s Dulce de Leche in this crisp people!
Of course I’m also making my favorite sweet treat… COOKIES!
I’ve told you before, but if you’ve still not tried this recipe, get right on it! These are the BEST cookies ever! The Husband asks for them all the time, the kids love them. No one can tell they’re gluten free! (Of course you can use regular flour and add all the gluten you want!)
White Chocolate-Cranberry-Walnut Cookies! Recipe HERE!
Instead of a pumpkin carving contest…(which had gotten very competitive)
We’ll be doing a couple of crafts with the kids and the men are having a corn-hole tournament!
(The crafts are geared toward fall/Thanksgiving – can’t wait to show you next week!)
Simplicity. I’m learning to filter every area of my life through that beautiful word.
~Hope your weekend is simply delightful my friends~
