I love taking old – ugly pieces of furniture and making them useful and pretty again.
I had an old stool hanging around the house and thought it would be cute if I painted it. But why stop at painting the little stool? Why not do a little graphic transfer!?
It really is easy ya know…
And I love it so much that I’m using it as a little side table on the screen porch to hold my coffee in the morning…
It started like this- I suppose you can see why I wanted to give it a facelift…
And you know how much I love paint…it’s my #1 go-to decorating/DIY/repurposing tool.
Paint gives you a BIG bang for your buck, so it’s no surprise that I painted the entire stool. But I did something a little different, I layered the color, starting with Behr MARQUEE Dayflower , then painted the top of the stool (2nd coat) with Behr MARQUEE Folly.
Next, I went to Graphics Fairy and found a cute French graphic and printed it out in REVERSE (many of her graphics have a reverse option)- I cut the graphic close to the pattern and used a transfer medium. (Follow directions on the bottle)
The directions on my medium says to let dry for 8 hours…I left it over night…
Then (following the directions), wet the graphic and my fingertip and a cloth and gently – ever so gently, removed the paper…
The stool would be perfect just like this, but I like things to look chippy and old…
So, I took it down to the shop and used the electric sander on it…but if you don’t want a chippy look, just leave it…
Put a clear matte top coat on the seat/top of the stool…and enjoy!
It’s perfect for my morning coffee and it was really fun to do!
Thanks to my friends at Behr Paint for sponsoring this post!
The stool is really cute and adds the unique item that we are always wishing for. 🙂

Hi there! I’m discovering your blog through avisiontoremember, and I love it! Thanks for all the inspiration. This stool is gorgeous now! xx
Hello my new friend Camille! thank you so much for hanging out with me 🙂 Have a wonderful day xo
I love this! You did a great job! I have several old stools that I could do this with. I love your blog!
Thanks for sharing on Idea Box!!
is there a fine layer of paper that is left. i’ve tried so many times and i end up pulling the graphic up when rubbing…any suggestions?
There might be some evidence of paper left- but it’s very thin and often times, a little of my transfer rubs off but I like that because it makes it look old and worn-
…are you gently rubbing the paper? Are you leaving the paper on the surface until it’s dry? These are the only things I can think of…I hope you can find a way to transfer your image my friend xo
