Today I have a guest post! My son-in-law Jon! You know him, he helped design my blog, he keeps up with my blog. He’s a computer genius! He’s also hubby to my daughter Stephie and Dad to Snookum…aka: Ellie…Elliot! Well, Jon has a blog:
The other day I read one of his posts and nearly had a mental overload…if I can grasp this truth, I thought, my life would be significantly different. I heart this post.
I loved it so much I asked him to pretty please guest post today…it’s Thanksgiving week and this is just perfect! Take a moment …

‘Seeing with New Eyes’
My daughter is 8 months old. Her world is just starting to come alive, and it is amazing to watch her see things for the first time. When you are an infant, the most mundane thing is fascinating.
For instance, she loves to play with her shoes. Sometimes she will grab a shoe, look at it with the most curious look, smile, put it in her mouth, and play with it like it’s the greatest thing she’s ever seen. To Elliot, a shoe isn’t just a shoe.
Of course, Elliot will realize the purpose of shoes, and her shoe will become just a shoe. But watching her play whimsically with them now makes me wonder, are there things that have become just ________ in my life? Do I need to see some things with new eyes?
- Sending messages around the world in a split-second is just email.
- Searching millions of web pages with a single click is just Google.
- Access to quality healthcare, clean water, abundant food, reliable transportation, air conditioning is just living in America.
- The person bugging me all day at work is just a customer.
- That Bible verse that everyone knows is just John 3:16.
- Rockets leaving the earth, traveling hundreds of thousands of miles and back, is just the space program.
- The little things that crawl around in the yard and can lift 20 times their body weight are just ants.
- The collection of boards and dry wall and shingles that keeps us comfortable from the elements is just our house.
- The woman I come home to every night that needs my undying love and affection is just my wife.
We get settled into life and the blessings, conveniences, wonders of the world become just things.
I need to look at some things with new eyes.

See why I love this Peeps?
If I could see the ordinary as extraordinary my life would be full of wonder.
If I could see through childlike eyes my world would be less complicated.
I might just…
*Smile more.
*Sleep better.
*Need less.
*Give more freely.
*Overflow with gratitude.
Love to each one of you reading this, I pray that this holiday week you’ll see the details of your life with new eyes…
And Jon is just a writer!!!! Love it.
Ahhhh….so refreshing and true. Tell Jon thanks, and thank you for sharing!
What a wonderful guy! Seems you and your daughter found 2 good men!!!!!!!!!!! I can see why this really hit you, Robin….especially at this time, right before Thanksgiving when we can express our gratitude for all we have. I want to see everything as NOT “just”. XO, Pinky
Thanks for the kind words, Pinky! Seeing things as not ‘just’ is the hardest thing ever, but it opens up a whole new world. Happy Thanksgiving!

Great thoughts Jon. We do tend to take so much for granted. We JUST live in the Greatest Country in the World. Stop and thank God everyday for JUST the blessings we enjoy. Remember to be thankful all the time for the happiness in your life. Call your loved ones today and tell them how much you love and appreciate them. Happy Thanksgiving !
Great post – I am so glad I read it! Thanks for making us stop, pause, reflect and be thankful….we are so very blessed.
PS….I have a Elliott too – he is 12 and my sunshine everyday! 🙂
Wow. This says it all. Thank you for sharing.
