We made an offer on the house on Stone House Lane before we realized that the old girl had no pantry!
You heard me right…we did not even notice. I was blinded by love for the den but I have no excuse for The Husband. ๐
We think the previous owners used the laundry room as a pantry and moved their washer/dryer to the basement. No need for that, we can fix this!
We looked for every possible place to tuck in a little pantry and decided to knock out a wall in our small laundry room (the real laundry room, upstairs), building out just a bit into the garage.
After researching tons of photos of pantries, this is the one that would (somewhat) fit our plan…
I was smitten by the barn door on rollers!
But I wanted to see the hardware…
So we called The King’s Carpentry our favorite contractors! They came out this week and made a bunch of progress on the pantry!
This is what we have so far!
Building out into the garage…
And this is from inside…Buck is installing the hardware for the barn door…
Wondermus!
Today, I’ll be painting and finishing up!
One thing about the hardware we keep seeing all over the internet (Pinterest is over-run with sliding barn doors), the cost if you simply “google” is about $400.00, (that’s just for the hardware) but at a tractor supply company it’s about $200.00! And you’d be surprised if you google tractor supply store…they are out there! This hardware came unpainted and they painted it flat black…
Hope to show you the finished pantry on Friday!
~Prayers for all of us to have eyes to see grace today~
xo
Great way to get creative! That looks so good!
There’s a Tractor Supply near me. I ab-so-lute-ly love this idea. I keep saying, “This is my favorite,” but truly, I think the barn door is!!!!
Can’t wait to see what color you paint it!!!!
Sometimes I have to add a second comment for your blog to find mine. ๐
Hi Robin, Love your new pantry. That’s a great idea to build out into the garage. It’s fun to watch your house unfold, although I am envying your energy:-) Keep the house posts coming, it’s fun to watch your progress.
I love the barn door!! I have wracked my brain to try to figure out somewhere to put them in my house. So far, no luck. ๐
I L O V E this barn-pantry door! The look is great and goes so well with your farm sink, Robin!!! We have a Tractor Supply store near us too. You can find just about anything you need there from clothes to hardware and a lot in between! :0)
Eileen, I’ve gotta go to the tractor supply store! (Do they have overalls? Mine are almost ready to be trashed! ๐
How deep are your shelves? Joe built us a pantry in our last house that had sliding doors (NOT barn doors, sadly) and the shelves were 12 inches deep and I found them PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you LOVE your new pantry. It will hold a TON of stuff. I used one side for food and the other for appliances and large serving pieces. LOVED IT!!!! XO, Pinky
Hi Robin,
I was absolutely thrilled yesterday evening to find your blog w/ pictures of your barn door application. Your pantry looks wonderful! I was just researching barn door hardware and was very discouraged by the high price tag. My brother suggested I try Tractor Supply and when I started Googling for photos I came across your blog. We have a bathroom door that opens into a linen closet door (very inconvenient in a sm. bathroom) so a barn door rail will work well for us. I’m so excited that this can be done for a fraction of the cost of the higher end hardware, but still look just as good. Would you be able to tell me what kind of paint was used on the hardware? Thanks!
Rachel, Hi! So nice to meet you! I’m hopefully posting the painted and finished pantry on Monday…the contractor spray painted the hardware flat black…I’ll text him and ask what kind of paint he used! (let you know on Monday) xo
Thanks, Robin, for looking into this for me. Let me know what you find out.
For a fellow bookworm, a C.S. Lewis quote that I love(though coffee is a fine substitute): โYou can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.โ So true. Blessings.
Turns out is was just regular spray paint made for all surfaces (says metal on the can) xo
