Inspiration Boards are so important when I’m planning a space. My process is in no way the correct way to design a room…nevertheless it’s what I do! Back in the day I would tear out magazine photos and pin them on my huge cork board but now we can use Pinterest and The Inspiration Board (a great site to put together your boards!). I love seeing the elements all together…

Right now, I’m putting together ideas for my next project: the screen porch! Here’s the way the porch looked when we moved in:
The drop leaf Duncan Phyfe table and the painted chairs were in my Project Room at Willow Creek…
We bought the swivel rocking chairs & ottomans because The Husband will not sit anywhere if he isn’t comfy and these are super comfy! (Martha Stewart from The Home Depot) I’ve been planning on recovering the chairs in a gray/blue fabric until I started putting together my inspiration board! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve altered my decorating plans after seeing the elements on an inspiration board.
Looking for a just-right rug, I found this one at Overstock and when I saw it on the board with the green chairs I immediately changed my mind about recovering them!!!
The rug combines the green on the chairs with the gray-blue I wanted to incorporate into the porch space!
The screen porch is visible from the kitchen and the den and often we leave the double doors wide open so the porch really seems like an extension of those rooms.
I’m really excited to bring similar rustic design elements like those on the inside out to the porch. To help do that, I’m considering this string of lights from The Home Depot:
See that arched screen door? The Husband is going to build 2 of those (similar ones!). After his three and a half month project building an arched front door and door frame, he says the arched screen doors will be a breeze! (The Arched Tudor Front Door and Door Frame are almost done!!! Praise Be!!!)
I suppose it’s obvious from all the Terra Cotta posts I’ve done this spring that I’m nuts about all things terra cotta! That being said, I couldn’t leave terra cotta out of the porch plans! Look at the white washed terra cotta garden stool I found online from The Home Depot! This little beauty will serve as a place for our coffee mugs between the two chairs!
I’m keeping the drop leaf table but will be painting it in a yummy soft gray/green/blue (I’m in the process of finding a gorgeous Behr Paint color , I’ll let you know!)
A drop leaf table is so practical for a small porch space. The Husband and I eat dinner on that table all the time and when we have the 30 plus members of the family over, I open up that table and it seats 6 people!
Also I’m thinking about staining the floor – I’ve never used Behr Weatherproofing Wood Stain, but I’m considering giving it a try! If you’ve tried it I’d love to hear from you & you may want to go HERE – Behr is having a Facebook Contest and you could win a $250.00 Home Depot Gift Card!!!
I’m looking forward to jumping into this project! The rug should be here this week!
Are you getting your outdoor spaces ready for warm weather?
xo
The rug is really going to pull this together. I’ve never used the stain, but you may want to consider white washing the floor that would look lovely. Keep us posted as you go. I love these projects.
It all looks wonderful but I’m especially in love with that rug. So pretty!
Screened-in porches are always my favorite parts of a house! And, last night a commercial came on for Behr Weatherproofing stain. We talked about doing it then and again this morning at the porch party….wonder if you paint it on or spray it?
Love how your rug goes beautifully with your chairs and you don’t have to change them!
I love everything you have pulled together. Can’t wait to see it when you have finished. I use my screened in back porch the most in the mornings in the summer. Seems like it’s too hot (compared to inside air conditioning) in the evenings. 😛 Mine needs a total overhaul though. Maybe next year. 😉
I love how all your elements blend so well together. I love the color of your chairs and ottoman. And, the rug just pulls it all together. Looks like a perfect place to enjoy relaxing, some laughter and special times with family. Have fun doing this project, Robin!
I am in LOVE with that rug and the terra cotta garden stool!!! The porch is going to be FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!! XO
We are just getting bids on rescreening our porch, redoing the wood floors.
Does anyone know of a fantastic railing material that does not need painting? Any ideas on new screening materials?
Nan, I really don’t know of any material that doesn’t need painting! I bet you can find something if you google! xo
