I’ve been wanting to try iron on transfer pillows for over a year and now I’m wondering why I waited so long! These pillows were so easy and took under an hour to make!
I went to Etsy and searched for Iron on Transfers and had the best time looking through hundreds of designs. After I settled on a couple that reminded me of springtime, I ordered them for $1.00 each and the seller sent them to my inbox! You need Iron On Fabric Transfers for Light Fabric. I used Avery transfers that I found at Staples (6 for $12.00) but Amazon has them for a better price and I’ve heard Walmart also sells them!
I printed my image onto the transfer paper – ***If using words, letters or numbers either order the image from Etsy with special instructions stating you want a ‘reverse’ or ‘mirror’ image or set your printer to ‘mirror’ image so when ironed on the word is going in the right direction!***
You’ll need fabric to make a pillow (I used a linen fabric) or if you don’t sew you can always go to Hobby Lobby in the fabric section and get a ready made pillow cover! They are really adorable and very inexpensive (between 7-10 dollars!)
If you’re making your pillow, sew it before you iron the transfer onto the fabric!
To sew pillow cover, you know the drill, *Cut fabric to desired size *sew right sides together leaving an opening big enough to stuff * Turn right side out and iron…
Now follow instructions that come with the transfers and iron on your transfer. (Follow instructions carefully) The process worked for me without ANY problem.
After the transfer is completely cooled (as per instructions) peel transfer off and your oh-so-cute-&-easy image appears!
To Finish: *Stuff pillow * Sew opening closed-
And just that quick you have a little Welcome Spring Pillow! (The Chevron pillow below is one of those pillow covers from Hobby Lobby-they have plain no-pattern covers too)
I cinched the corners of the bunny pillow just because…
I have several more iron on transfer sheets left and lots of ideas about how to use them!
As for the pillows…I can’t remember a little project that was this easy and turned out so cute!
Have you guys used iron on transfers for any projects? If so, do tell xoxo
