How’s your new year going? Have you recovered from a Holiday Hangover? For me, it’s always the same issue in January, that conflict of missing the warmth of Christmas, the glow of lights and the house feeling so cozy, at the same time I want to “quiet my spaces”. A clean slate.
Obviously, the clean slate wins because after all, you can’t leave Christmas up all year! But after I pack away all that Christmas cheer, I need some carefully placed pick-me-ups. That’s when I do a little winter decorating.
Here are a few ideas from last January…
I like to keep a bit of greenery. Last year I added a few Lamb’s Ear picks on the mantel along with a cute heart garland and some lanterns…
A little love sign in the kitchen is a harbinger of all that’s special in the month of February. Add a few red roses and the kitchen gives a nice after-holiday dose of cheer…
This Christmas our farm table was either decorated with a centerpiece or the table was set for company. When all of those things were tucked away, the table seemed empty. In the interest of keeping it simple for January, I added some glass jugs with a few sprigs of Lamb’s Ear…can you tell I adore Lamb’s Ear? It’s the soft color that gets me…
And when I feel the need for freshening up our home, I use flowers…
and houseplants… That combo is always a sure thing… (I took the photo below at an adorable flower shop in Atlanta)
I hope you’ve been able to make that tricky transition from December to January. And I hope your new year is going well.
