The holiday season is in full swing.
At least at our house.
From the first time we light a fire to take the chill off in October, straight through New Year’s Day we’re in holiday mode. And for as long as I can remember, those holidays pretty much revolved around the little people in our lives.
So while we never do scary at our house, we do so love a kid-friendly Halloween!
Mike and I have 5 grandchildren and a large assortment of ittie-bitties belonging to extended family and friends. Every year for the past 12 years we’ve been throwing a Fall Party. At first we focused on a pumpkin carving contest for our mostly-grown kids and nieces and nephews. But when those mostly-grown kids started having kids of their own, we changed to more of a kid friendly Halloween party.
And with those little princesses, lions, super-heros and fairy tale characters dressed for trick-or-treat, we like to put together a “photo-op” area!
This year my friends from Balsam Hill graciously sent me a bunch of bewitching, yet kid friendly Halloween decorations to greet our guests and create the perfect backdrop for capturing those memories…
To put together your own Kid Friendly Halloween photo-op area you only need a few basic fall elements…
*Hay
*Corn Stalks
*Pumpkins
*Mums
And then add a little fun!
It’s easy to create a little space for memory – keeping. A photo of the kiddos dressed in their Halloween best are great keepsakes and a reminder that little ones grow up so fast.
Time flies…
In addition to getting some great photos, consider a few games, a piñata or even an easy craft for the little people…
It doesn’t take much effort to make some Halloween memories…
And as the sun goes down …Light that fire pit and grab the marshmallows…
Halloween kid friendly, have always had kid friendly until my kids are older now I have one grandchild and twins on the way. I can’t wait for next Halloween to be able to share pictures of my new babies. Still waiting to find out what they are Saturday is the day We will know. Looking forward to Halloween 2017 and lots of great decorations! Happy Halloween to you and your family and this is a great blog
Congratulations Kim!!! Twins on the way! I’m so excited that you find out on Saturday- what a blessing- xo
Kid friendly! We have a 6 year old granddaughter so these ideas are great!
Kid friendly. Haven’t ever been into scary, and the older I get the more kid friendly I like! 🙂
I like a kid friendly Halloween.
I’m not much into Halloween either way but I do love decorating for fall. And I do love Balsam Hill.
I have 3 kids, so I like kid-friendly. Even before kids I liked kid-friendly, I’m too much of a chicken to like the scary stuff!
Most definitely kid friendly. There is enough scary in the world already!!
We do a little of both. We’re from upstate NY and we have an old fashioned cider press. We do a large cider party every year with family (we both have large families) and friends. We do the party in our large garage and I usually decorate the garage kid friendly. The kids bob for apples and carve pumpkins and help make cider. When the night comes, we usually have a haunted house, path or hayride. We switch it up every year so the kids don’t get bored. Last year, we did it inside and it was over the top. The adults loved it and thought we could have charged admission. At the end of the party, we give the kids treat bags. We live in the country so we don’t get trick to treaters and I love all things Halloween!
As my kids get older, I do a little of both. Mostly kid friendly but I throw in a little creepiness here & there.
I love a kid friendly party – with five grandkids this is the way to go.
Kid friendly all the way! I too have small grands and they love the excitement and costumes and candy but I will never scare my precious little ones. Happy Halloween , Robin ! Love ya girl
Kid friendly for sure! Have never enjoyed “scary”!
Teresa
I have always loved kid friendly decorations for Halloween. Knowing from the past when a little one came to the door for treats, my children did not like the scary ones, so I steered away from that. Today, I have four Grandloves and I would not scare them in any way.
Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Love a kid friendly décor style. The “sweeter” the better!!
Kid friendly…..
Great presentation on the blog today!!! Btavo!!!
Kid friendly!!!
Kid friendly with a little ‘tame’ scary. When my daughter was younger we had a Halloween party. I made a Frankenstein lying on a table. Used a mask for the head and rolled bath towels/throws for body. It was all covered with a sheet/fabric. I cut slits at various locations on the body. Underneath each slit a plastic container was placed holding cooked pasta (guts), celery (bones), baby carrots (fingers), peeled grapes (eyeballs), kernel corn (teeth), etc. in each. Jello also adds some sliminess! The kids would stick their hands in the slit and feel the ‘body parts’. They loved it!! So much so, when parents came to pick them up… The kids made them do it too!! It was great fun for all.
Robin, I always your “photo op” stations and this year’s is outstanding! Thank you for sharing!
I like spooky Halloween decorations, but nothing scary or gory… still kid-friendly. I guess I like a little of both! Thanks for the giveaway!
Definitely kid friendly! My grandkids live all over the states so I miss not having them closeby. Always more fun with kids! Thanks for the giveaway and happy Halloween! 🙂
Kid Friendly!!! Love to see all the little ones dressed up for Halloween. My six little grandchildren do not like the scary things. Just want the kids to have fun!!
I enjoy both kid-friendly and scary. It’s fun to add a mixture of both, but nothing that would make kids feel uncomfortable. I adore those cats and everything else you have listed. It’s absolutely the best looking Halloween party you got going on there, and those kids look so sweet in the picture all dressed up.
Kid friendly! A little spooky is great but if it’s too scary, the little ones don’t really enjoy, and isn’t that who Halloween is for?
Really love your site! Thanks for the giveaway!
I like a kid friendly halloween! I not too big into scary! I have lots of kids come trick or treating to my house and I would not want to scare them away!
Kid friendly for sure! We have littles who come to our house because the family knows we have animal crackers, juice boxes, raisins and bottles of water along with typical Halloween treats for the kiddos. We have 3 metal Jack-o-lanterns now and I would love to add a black cat luminary. So Cute! Thank you for the opportunity!
I like a cute and simple kid friendly Halloween, although now that some of my kids are getting older I’ve added in a few scary items up high. I like to decorate for fall and Halloween at the same time so that when Halloween is over I can just take down a few items and the house is Thanksgiving ready!
I love a kid friendly Halloween. I tend to lean towards the more retro looking Halloween decor. It brings back such happy childhood memories.
I so prefer doing kid friendly Halloween. I would rather have a really cute display than a scary one. My grandson and I make cheesecloth ghosts with smiles and glitter!
I love the pumpkins you used in the picture advertising the blog hop but I can’t find them on the site!!
Definitely kid friendly. Still have one grandchild young enough to embrace all the fun. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway.
Definitely kid friendly!!
I would like a kid friendly Halloween.
Love scary but my neighborhood has changed and now I do kid friendly!
I like a scary Halloween, we don’t have any kids around right now except for my Niece’s baby who is 5 months old but after being around her Mom who loves horror movies I think she will be OK with scary stuff.
Since I have three granddaughters we keep it kid friendly with just a little creepy thrown in. All in fun. We had a tradition every Halloween of getting dressed for supper in costumes, which consisted of chili dogs and all the trimmings. We then would go out trick or treating. My children still hold to the tradition with my grandchildren and even my single children that live away find their way to a chili dog supper on Halloween.
I prefer a kid friendly Halloween. I don’t like being scared! LOL msmissy02 at gmail dot com
Scary! My kids are into scary, so we’d all enjoy a scary Halloween
Kid friendly. I don’t mind a little scare, but no gore.
Kid friendly! I don’t enjoy anything scary. I like carving pumpkins, making caramel apples, and doing kid friendly activities!
