The Last Supper…the meal Jesus shared with His disciples on the night before He was crucified.
The time with His friends that evening was significant. During their meal together, Jesus made overt efforts to prepare His disciples for His death.
In chapter 13 John tells us that Jesus “knew the the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father.”
He was in command of the situation. He knew full well what was coming. And I imagine He chose His words and His actions carefully.
At some point there, during the talk of death and betrayal, when the mood in the room must have been heavy and the disciples feeling uncertain about the future…Jesus Christ knelt down and washed their feet.
What a tender, humble act of service.
But then the whole of the Last Supper, He was serving them, spending Himself on their behalf.
…washing their feet.
…breaking the bread, representing His body that would soon be broken.
…pouring the wine, representing His blood that would soon be shed.
His actions there, the night before He gave His life, teach us so much about how He wants us to relate to one another.
Tenderly.
Humbly.
From a position of service.
~Prayers for our focus today, to be firmly set on Jesus, sending you love my friends~
From a position of service, hmmmmm, yeah, thanks!
It’s humbling just to read it. To think about living this way every single day…..no way to do it on my own. Rich post, Robin. Thank you.
Thanks Robin! I was touched and overwhelmed this morning reading about Jesus’ time with His disciples this morning as well! He did show us how we are to serve each other.
