I don’t do politics here.
I don’t aspire to influence anyone to vote any certain way. I don’t have a soapbox or a picket sign or a megaphone to shout snarky comments.
Today, after this long- ugly election in the US, I’d like to throw out a word for consideration to those of you who are Christ followers…
love.
Love for God.
Love for people.
You know…the greatest commandment.
Today all over social media, some of my sisters and brothers in the faith are spewing sarcasm. Mocking those who didn’t vote like they did.
I want to jump up and down with my arms in the air and say…stop! Just stop for a moment and think!
Mocking. Sarcasm. Hate. Gloating.
After that kind of verbiage do you think your friends on Facebook, twitter, Snapchat or Instagram will look at you and say: now there’s a person filled with the love of God?
And worse…
Later…when that “friend”…the one you’re mocking…when that real live person gets a bad diagnosis, loses a spouse or a child, falls into financial hardship…will they be drawn to Jesus in you? Will they ask you to say a prayer for them?
Will you be in a place to serve them?
Or will they be repelled?
Are you throwing away your opportunity for God to use you?
Throwing out your sacred opportunity to serve someone in Jesus name?
All so you could gloat over your candidate winning…
May God have mercy …
Well said, Robin! Thank you for standing up and reminding us that we are to be Godly examples of Christ and His love for all in every situation.
TRUTH… words of wisdom, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Amen
Amen, sister in Christ! Thank you. You are a safe harbor in a tumultuous sea.
So true, Robin. Ask yourself (and this includes those who candidate won or lost), am I including God in my planning, talk and actions for the day?
O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Your praise … Psalm 51:15
I wouldn’t expect anything less from you Robin. You’re one of the most loving and gracious bloggers I have read. I have been on a social media hiatus for weeks and do not plan to be back on for at least a few days. I am happy to see you post though. I have been concerned about your absence. I feel you have some heavy things going on in your life right now. Praying for you!! Thank you for your true words this morning. 🙂
Its so heartening to read your words and “hear” your voice of compassion, and faith, and love shine through all of this today. Thank you. Love you.
Thank you for sharing this-I agree, but am convicted because I just ended my post saying that if anyone wrote offensive comments they would not be published. I was speaking more of profanity etc, but you’ve made me stop and think.
Well said…well said. Thank you for your voice of faith and reason.
This is a perfect message. I tried my best not to respond to political messages on social media. Sometimes that was hard because I couldn’t believe how different they saw things.
A lot of Christians prayed about this election and I believe the Lord’s hand is in our answer. I am giving God the glory.
Thank you Robin! You inspire me.
Absolutely beautiful, Robin.
Thank you for a positive in this season of negatives. Thank you for reminding us that no matter what Christ still sits in his throne and it is our job to lead others to him, not away – ❤️️
In my devotional today it said, and not talking about the election but of life injustices in general, ” Yes the situation may hurt, and yes the whole thing may be grossly unfair, but fixing the problem is God’s business. (I Peter 3:12) In my FB post today I posted that I love all my friends, no matter their beliefs or race and that is how I’ve tried to live my life. Now some are harder to love at times but as you said, we are commanded to love. Thank you for sharing this today.
Thank you for this post. This election seems to have brought out the ugliest emotions in so many people and it makes me sad. What makes me even more sad is when they justify their hate through God. God teaches love, kindness and compassion. Not hate, anger and judgment. I wish more people in this country had your thoughts and views. It would be a kinder nation.
Robin, So true and powerful. In fact, just yesterday I said something similar on FB, because I was so sick of “Christians” carrying in on such a poor manner and the profanity they were using. How does this behavior reflect Christ or honor Him? When our president elect won 8 years ago, those of us who didn’t want him as President, did not curse and malign others who voted for him; the same is true for Hillary. The protestors are fussing over something they can’t change. May His mercy forgive us all and cover us! May our country turn around and be united.
Hugs, Noreen
Thank you so much. May I share on Facebook?
Absolutely Cassandra xoxo
Oh my goodness. I signed up for responses to my comment, and received an email with A terrible mean comment. That is the reason I asked for permission. I do not want to subject you to attack. I also want to give you a great big hug. Thank you for building bridges, even in the face of harsh criticism.
Cassandra…so sorry that comment came through. I really should just close comments to keep that from happening…that woman must be hurting to have so much anger. Again, so sorry about that and thank you for reaching out…sending love my friend ox
Robin: I prayed for you just now. I prayed for protection of your heart and spirit today and a binding up of strength. “If God be for us!” Even though I’ve never met you, my heart hurt for you when I read the comment that was left yesterday. We are encouraged to bear one another’s burdens, and as sisters in the Lord that’s how I felt. I wanted to hug you and pray together for our country and her people. I bet we already are doing that. I have also prayed for the commenter. That her heart will be changed and the words of her mouth would be seasoned with love. I pray that you have a great Sunday filled with joy from up above.
thank you so much Fekicia…I agree with you in prayer about the dear lady who commented – she must be hurting. xo
